    Where are the BFGS made?
Should be written on the sidewall.

Bridgestones from the 70's and 80's, binned them straight away.

I had Bridgestones on my Legacy when I bought it, then changed to Toyos on larger wheels for a while, when I sent my larger wheels off to be refurbed I put the bridgstones back on, I then drove the car around a large roundabout in the wet that I drve round all the time and was shocked at the lack of grip in the wet, understeer city.

My mates son had Bridgestones on his WRX, as my similar WRX did in 2004 (though only owned it for 3 sunny months as thought I would lose my licence).

He changed over to Toyos and said the car was transformed, especially in the wet, in the dry they where fairly evenly matched.

I think Bridgstones still struggle a bit for wet weather grip, they also give very little warning of running out of grip in the wet.

All my Toyos Proxes ( one set on a Honda, one on an MX-5) were made in Japan.

The field I work in still suffers from far too many problems with Chinese made products for me to feel comfortable with Chinese tyres - yet.

Of course, the same was once true of Japanese bikes and cars. Times change. Now it would take a lot to convince me to buy a car from anywhere else (though Korea is getting very close)
  • Several lines from the Cooper range are also manufactured in the UK plant at Melksham but not all. Some are built in the US and China. All Cooper and Avon motorsport tyres are built in Wiltshire.

I work in quality, and I'd not buy something as important as a tyre from someone who made it as cheap and fast as could be.

I'd rather pay a bit more for something decent that's on a palm sized area between me and the road...

So you'd buy a quality assured, E marked tyre that's passed all the right tests for use in europe?
Or do you mean you mean the quality standards and the tests are meaningless, and that quality is dictated by price or name?

    A wee update, the size is 175 65 14 and it's a corsa car.

I got some quotes, and found the cheapest supplier locally - like to support my local businesses.

I got prices for delivery only (not fitting) from black circles, mytyres and etyres, found that blackcircles was consistently the cheapest.

Blackcircles: All prices (in Black) Plus £12 delivery for any number of tyres as I'm ordering 2 that's plus £6 each, I could order 4 in anticipation and bring it down to plus £3 each.

Local supplier all prices (in RED) Are going directly through the local supplier & inc VAT, fitting, valve and balancing

    Conti eco contact 3 82 T £37.03.........£41.50
    Firestone multihawk 82 T £33.68.........£41
    Avon ZT5 82 T £37.43......................£33
    Avon ZT5 86 T £37.33......................not given
    Michelin Energy 82 T £42.91...............£47

I have decided upon the Avon for price and Made in Britain -hopefully- Sorry Michelin, I can't justify the extra £14 per tyre.

He said the Avon 86 T was for extra loads and was for vans, I knew that already, but I thought it would be better to have a stronger tyre if like blackcircles they were the same price..... Does anyone know of any GOOD reason why you would not put a stronger tyre load - rated tyre onto a car? Insurance, performance, design etc?

A word to the wise.... the "fitted" price for blackcircles was a lot more, the conti as an example was £51.43 thats £8 per tyre on top. Delivery is included in the fitted price as they go straight to the garage. And I suppose if you got delivery only, you'd easily have to pay at least £8 fitting so you would not be any better off. So my little investigation has proven yet again that it's cheaper to shop around & go local than to buy off the internet.

I'm saving £37.66 on 2 tyres by doing my homework & going local.

Will report back on the situation after fitting, as I say, I don't actually know yet if they will be British tyres or what the tread depth will be.
