  • I had an Event MJ683 tyre fitted for £38 all in yesterday in size 175/65/14 at a local inde garage. :p

No idea if they are made in the UK, sorry.
  • I've got Cooper tyres apparently they are rebranding Avon as cooper or at least that is what the bloke at the Super Tyres told me. No idea where they were made TBH.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I'm all for buying British but when it comes down to safety and performance I'll go for the best product that can do the job over where it was manufactured.

I'm someone who happily uses remoulds, budgets from Romania etc, or scrap yard sourced tyres. I never have any problems with safety and have never found any ditches.

But -because I can't get any from the scrapyards, they don't have any- I'm having an unusual......
"might aswell buy a brandname this time, as it's only an extra £13 per tyre over the budgets" moment

    and then I had a......
"hmmm if I'm going to buy 'branded' might aswell support the UK and buy British" moment.

So I'm positive I won't have any issues with an Avon or Michlin tyre.

I'm currently erring on the side of Avon as they are cheaper and *I think* they are more likely to be made in the UK, whereas Michlin must have manufacturing plants all over the place.
  • looking at the cooper tires web site corporate hq is in Ohio USA but manufacturing is worldwide including UK.

    Looks Like Cooper owns Avon

Avon Web site says contact info is

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Ltd
    Bath Road
    Melksham
    Wiltshire

    United Kingdom

Dunlop have closed, Avon make tyres in the Uk, but are owned by the American company Cooper.
Michelin make tyres in Dundee, but are French.
Pirelli make tyres in Carisle, but are Itallian.

You could look at the british tyre manufacturers association, but they don't list any.

edit - E is type approval for europe, all tyres sold in europe should be marked E with a number.

... and now they make them for National Tyres.

(Not all of them, obviously, but some).

I take a different attitude to tyres depending on what car they are going on. We have two cars; one which does 20k per year and is on the motorway all the time, the other pootles and does 5-6k.

I buy good quality mid-range tyres for the main car (usually Toyo, Avon or Falken). But for the second car, I have no issue with putting on Nankangs, Rotallas or whatever budget brand I can find cheap that day.

The cheaper tyres are absolutely fine if you don't push them too hard. The problem with them is when the tread starts to wear down -- they're always replaced once they're down to 4mm.

Event tyres are imported by a Dutch company and usually made in China or Indonesia btw.
