OK, clearly you are all talking to the right people. The woman I spoke to has assured me there are no offers at the moment at all.

Also - this is clearly office hours and she was in India.

Ask to be put through to cancellations. If you're asked why just say you are considering leaving.

I don't think first line customer services have the authority to give customers discounts.

So what did the service engineer say was wrong with your system when he came round?

Nothing. He checked signla strength, said it might be someone using walkie talkies, then said he couldn't get it to do what it was doing before (freeze live telly, sound cut out, etc) so he couldn't do anything to it.

I don't think I can ask to be put through to cancellations, because we are only 6 months into a 12 month contract on the Sky +

Which is not SKY's number ..... Rather it's the number of a rather irate but pleasant gentleman who wishes folk wouldn't claim it is. :)

Perhaps the board guide could edit it?

    :)
This is the number - I have just rang it.

I had a phone call from sky today to say my deal was up would i like to discuss a different package, ive had 3mths at half price= £21 and 2mths at -40% = £25.50p she offered me 2mths at- 25%= £31.87p i asked if this was the best she could come up with because i thought it was too expensive and was thinking of cancelling and going on freeveiw she couldn`t offer me anything better at the moment so i said i would think about it, she told me she has put a note on my file to ring me again in a few days time. (don`t know what to do now or am i being greedy) :-(
  • Hi guys

    Some advice please.

I rang Sky on Monday and did the old cancel routine mentioning Sky+ blah blah blah. First of all he said £99 then I said that its £89 on your website etc.

He then gave me the deal for £65 installed saying the £49 deal had ended.

Anyway yesterday I get a leaflet through my door offering Sky+ for £99 but with 4 months half price. (this includes the £42.50 top deal too).

So by my maths I'm paying £65 and £42.50 per month whereas a new customer can get it for £99 but only £21.25 per month (first 4 months).

I make that out new customers are £53 better off
    • Me (Year) £65 + £510 (£42.50 x 12) = £575
    • New Customer (Year) £99 + £423 (8 x £42.50 + 4 x £21.25) = 522
My installation is booked for 31st January but I might have to move the date because of work.

I did ask him about a further discount after we had agreed the Sky+ deal and he said nothing had come through that morning (they usually do on Monday he said) and to try another time.

I'm now thinking I might accidentally "mention" the offer in the post and see if I can get some £££ of my rental too.

Do you think I'm pushing my luck here?

    Cheers

  • when you ring sky you are first put through to a general office person I think and you tell them you are considering using a different supplier they then say they will put you through to the department which deals with this. This is the person who offers you a new deal.DO NOT ask for a new deal just repeat that you are thinkin of changing to another company.Again, dont mention a new deal they will offer one and remember be dead cool when they mention this as if you are really considering their offer and not about to snatch their hand off for this.

Just to confirm what has been said many times, I needed Sky to come and fix some problems. They started at £69. but within 20 seconds or so offered it for free, (via a £32. offer which I refused).

Dont let them beat you. Thanks everyone.

I would stop the account - you get a good freeview box with the sky system anyway
See what the last people say before you leave and I got loads of good offers from Sky since leaving and ended up with 50 quid argos voucher and 3 months half price offer to boot
  • Well I used that freephone number and it worked a treat especially as my sky + had broken and needed a lengthy phone call to sort it. Great post, many thanks
