I cancelled my family package in June, do not remember getting any offers or follow up calls. Had intended to buy am all singing dvd recorder, hd, timeslip etc but have since found out that they can only record the channel you are watching. So am now thinking along the lines of Sky +. This was assuming that if there was something I wanted to transport to another viewing medium ie dvd that I could download from sky box to lap top and then burn to disc. Is this possible, can't see the point of going out and buying a dvd recorder as well as the sky box. Have currently got a perfectly adequate dvd player and I am also assuming that I will be able to control the sky + upstairs via the magic eye.

So bearing all this in mind which is the cheapest way of getting this. Should I just go back on min package and then upgrade to Sky+

no - register under another name (OH if possible) and buy it through https://www.quidco.com (for £50 cashback) this way you will get 3 months half price packages plus your free equipment and new 1 year warranty and you can order a skyplus box for £49 at the moment online so the £50 cashback will basically pay for your sky plus :D

Will that not cause alarm bells because of our address, and what will the engineer say when he comes to install and the sky dish etc are already installed.

shouldn't be a problem - and the sky engineer shouldn't mind as he will have less work to do - he will only need to replace the sky dish but won't need to run as many new cables etc etc. I am getting mine done on Monday under another name. Try to order online through quidco. It should be fine - anyway all they can do is say no (which is extremely unlikely)

Signed up with Quidco in hubbys name when I first read your post Kazzea but am still waiting for confirmation email. So until that comes through I cannot place my order.

theres no rush :) - although if you are already with quidco under your own name you can order through that - it doesn't matter to Quidco whods name you use when ordering the goods - just that you have went through their site. So you can use your quidco account (if you have one) and still sign up to Sky under OH name :)
  • Just tried cancelling. I was currently on the £41 sky+ package with SS 1 and 3, and movies 2 4 6 and 8.

Took about 5 minutes. Managed to get the package half price for 3 months (£21.50) but that's not all. My powers of charm must've worked as I was also given ALL Sky Sports and Movie channels (plus disney).

So that means for the next 3 months I will be paying £21.50 for

    all sky sports
    all sky movies
    sky+

    :T :T :T

Finally got off my rear end and sorted this... have been meaning to do it since reading the original post... Went down the route of 'skint and need to cut back' scenario - no problem getting the deal.

3 months half price saving me £18 per month (£54 in total) and a hint from rep I spoke to that I should 'talk to them again' in 3 months if I was still thinking of leaving.

I shall be looking to get at least another 3 months out of them come January, and if they play hard ball it's time for freeview!!

    Many thanks ARB78

Just managed to get the full movies+sport channel package for half price through until January - delighted to be getting the movie channels over Christmas when all the best films are shown!

Now on £21.25/mo compared with the £21/mo I was originally paying for the family package. Movie channels + sport for 25p/mo extra sounds pretty good to me!

Had to call the 0870 number (ggrrrr!) but was only a 10 min phone call so I figure it was a pound well spent. Thanks to all on this thread for the encouragement and to anyone that hasn't built up the nerve to do so yet go on, have a go! :)
