Hopefully some has had this problem? Our sky box is broken (no signal problem and its really old) and to get a technician out it would be £65. Surely I can just cancel sky and throw its away. Then in a few days order sky in a family members name and qualifying as a new customer? Getting the free box and whateverCharles J0

It will not work as the address will show your name at address or as used to be where the live account was.It is FAR easier to ring for a service call and say you cannot afford cost of call out.The c.s. person will then put you on hold for a second and then offer you a FREE callout to keep you as a customer.I had the same thing and got a free callout and a reconditioned box as mine was knackered.
I know some folk on here will poss disagree but this WILL work and you also keep your viewing.

I did phone up to genuinely cancel and someone is coming out today to fix my equipment for free and I can still cancel tomorrow (which incidentally I am going to do!). They seemed desperate to keep my custom and i've only ever had the cheap package.
Word of warning though, Sky rang me up once and offered me an upgrade to the full package on special offer for 2 months at £7 extra per month but when the bill came through they charged me full. The customer services abroad refused to drop the price as they thought i'd upgraded normally AND wouldn't let me cancel, even though they'd originally said I could at any time. In the end i managed to find a number for the scottish CS and they sorted it for me, apologising profusely. It seems that the offer that the original sky bloke had given me wasn't even a genuine offer so he'd lied to get me to upgrade!!!!
It was just another nail in the coffin to get it cancelled.0 -

Our box broke, as our son had a water pistol incident with it (bless him). They tried the £65 call out fee, plus the cost of new box if irrepairable.
We said not to worry, as we'd go with NTL instead, as they were offering a free box with unlimited warranty for as ong as we were subscribing.
They gave us a free box.
Funny thing, I don't think we can receive NTL here yet.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
I rang up on friday, to downgrade to just the basic package with £10 on top for sky+.
After going through everything and agreeing a price of £30 per month the lady offered me a promotion. Keep all the channels for £30 a month for three months.
Can't quite believe that one, I guess she is hoping after the three months I will forget to downgrade, or just not want to.LBM 12.09.12 - £53K in debt.
DFD - 11.07.2019 (OMG).
New DFD is 28.10.2018 due to paying the absolute maximum.
Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.0 -
What a result!
I have spent ages reading all the threads and finally plucked up courage to ring Sky on the freephone number.
I got through straight away and told them I wanted to cancel. I got put through to a lovely scottish girl called susan who was kindness itself. I told them my daughter had moved out and we no longer needed Sky as much.
She asked me what kind of channels I watched and I said mainly the documentarys and a couple of films.
She then offered me a mix and match set of channels and also lowered the price to £15.00 for 3 months.
I didn't want this and told her it would be rather limiting. She then said you can have half price on your family package for 3 months so I asked her if this would apply to the movie channels as well and she said yes!
Total result £18.00 a month for the next three months, this came just at the right time as my youngest has been bugging me to upgrade to the Disney channels and now we get them for free.
Don't you just love this site!0 -
I've posted this in another Sky thread, but it looks like the freephone number via the disney channel has been plugged. Option 1 now just gives you a directive to call 0870 blah blah blah.0

I have just tried all the 0800 and geographical numbers without success and then waited for 15+ minutes without getting through on the 0870 number - I'm not happy!!
I also tried to change my package via the internet but it would seem that only new customers can do that.
I came pretty close to dumping the whole lot!
I have just come to the end of a 3 month half price after threatening to cancel but if things carry on like this I really will cancel soon.0
