I want to cancel sky, but when I took out the sky card to see which channels I can get for free I can only get bbc channels will I need a special card for the other channels eg. itv..
  • Yep, me too. phoned (0800 2792000 of course) to cancel as had gone up to £21 from £19.50. Got offered 3 months for 1/2 price. Might cancel anyway after that; there is only so much one needs to know about Hitler and sharks.

To answer frosty's question, if you cancel sky but leave the card in then I believe you can still receive itv1, etc. I guess channels should be the same as Sky's freesat - http://www.freesatfromsky.com/

It amazes me that $ky have never tried to regain my custom. I still use my digibox for freesat. If they were to offer me a reasonable return to $ky offer I may take them up on it. ie a cheap $ky+ box perhaps.

I had to threaten to cancel to get a £99 skyplus box today without multiroom - said that the £49 deal is gone now.

if you know someone that is thinking of becomeing a new customer then your set. They are doing a deal, where if current sky customers recommend a friend to a contract worth £15 or more a month then the current sky customer gets upgraded to sky+ free of charge. The monthly tariffs are identical so all you need to do is sign another 12 month contract. The new customer gets install and everything for £89.

I'm moving to a new flat and my parents at home have normal sky so this is what we will be doing. He's been screwing about the fact its a rip off for current sky customers to be upgraded to sky+, so was happy to hear about this promotion
  • I am moving house very soon and decided to have SKY disconected. At first they offered me half price for 3 months but I still refused so they acually offered to move me free and even when I get to my new house I can still cancel if I wish so saved 40 quid and still can get rid if I like

I just rang up to cancel our service as our sky box is on it's last legs and we barely watch the telly anyway. They are coming out tomorrow free of charge to fix or replace our box as a gesture of goodwill and he said I can still cancel on Monday if I want to. Now I've found out about their freesat services (we can't have freeview as our outside arial doesn't work), I may just pay the £20 for the freesat card or cancel sky and see if we can pick it up anyway.
Thanks for the link to the freesat site, I didn't know they did that service!
