My husband was offered 3 months family package at £13.50 in October and when it ended he phoned to cancel and was not offered a deal. He went ahead and as of Saturday we have had no sky for the first time in many years. We are, however, enjoying a free dvd trial and we have been playing board games with the kids so have not missed sky at all0

Hi,
I've been battling with Sky for quite a while to get a decent discount from them. I finally cancelled just before christmas over the cost of upgrading to SKY+ for an exisiting customer. It seemed that not one of the people I spoke to had the authority to offer any discounts to existing customers. If anyone else is trying this please keep at it. I left it for 1 month and rang them back.
I explained to the chap at SKY that I wanted SKY+ and why I had cancelled and that "I missed SKY but normal sky was mutually incompatible with having a 1year son!" he was very careful what he said but basically I think he deleted a lot of the records about me and then put the order through. £99 including installation for a 160GB SKY+ system (normaly about 400 quid).
I was a little concerned in case I was breaking the interactive discount contract but he very carefully explained that this £99 was for a discounted purchase of the box and the installation and that the installation was not free and therefore not subject to the IDC clause. I also have the full SKY package for 21 quid for 3 months!
It is fantastic!
Good luck anyone else who is trying to get it. Do push for the 160Gb box as well as it stores masses more.0 -
I rang sky today to cut down on my monthly bill, heard about the offers some have had on here but was only interested in cutting cost at the minute, told the 2 people i spoke to that i couldnt afford to keep paying full rate and wanted to cut down as much as possible, asked to have movies taken off and the woman said "why not keep the odd ones and only lose the even numbered and disney channels". I said that sounds good, she then said that i'd be paying £39 instead of £41 but they've already sent the payment instruction to the bank so i would have £2 credited on my next bill. A whole £2!! So i said what if i cut out all the movies? "sorry cant do that till next month now" so i rang up and saved a whole £2 on my bill. Whoop-de-do!!!! Guess who wont be renewing their contract?0

Just rang sky with every intention of ending my subscription, was put through to a senior manager and immediately offered 1/2 off my £41 package. Guess I won't be going to freeview for a few months yet...0

I called to get a discount in December I ended up cancelling and had to give 1 months notice. It went off on the 6th January and I was dreading it, but now I'm really pleased and I can see that we were paying a lot for not much at all. I do miss living a bit, but realise it isn't worth the cost, and I was concerned how it would be for the kids, but its much better instead of watching american dross or cartoon after cartoon, they are now much more particular.
What we did keep and have to pay £10 a month for is the sky+ functionality which we do use all the time, so we record everything we want to watch and watch it when we want. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0 -
I agree jordylass. We are now into our 3rd week of no sky and are not missing it at all. We actually realised how little we had been watching it before.0
-
Fair enough if you want to cancel.
But to those that don't, if your three months half price has ended pick up that phone, I got another three months by again saying I wanted to quit. Just remember to be polite, it definately helps!LBM 12.09.12 - £53K in debt.
DFD - 11.07.2019 (OMG).
New DFD is 28.10.2018 due to paying the absolute maximum.
Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.0 -

I rang earlier this week as my cheap movie package ended this month. Was told too late to cancel the direct debit but they would credit me the cancellation on my March bill, which actually means that I pay nothing in March and only 14.68 in April instead of 19.50.
Ring them back and cancel Movies as from today, they will then credit you the overpayment they have taken this month on your next bill (March ) Im now on Family Pack
Hopefully with all these reductions in packages by April they will offer us the discounts againThanks to everyone who posts comps :T0
