    With regards to the question on what channels you get when they do cut you off. Well, they stopped my card last week, and the only channels of real value to us are;

    ITV2 & 3, BBC3 & 4, CBBC & Cbeebies.
    Although E4 & E4+1 are NOT available  :(

    For those in areas where reception is poor for the 5 terrestrial channels, these are still available.

    However, you do need to leave your card inserted to view any of these.
    You can also get the Reality Channel on Ch.187
  • i belive you do get the channels with out payin a subscription you need to leave your card in though and i am my self confused about wether or not you get the ITV's and Channel 4,5,,,,, for free!!

    maybe you could let me know on that one!!

    ignor me,, been a long xmas,, answer is above Doh!

    If you cancel sky you still get ITV, ITV2, Ch 4, Ch 5, all BBC type stations.

    You can check what you'd get by taking your card out.

    I have been a sky customer for around 2 years and have been on the top package paying 40+ a month, can anyone offer any advice on how to go about getting sky+ and sky multiroom without paying over the odds....how much should I be paying for sky+ and sky multiroom.

    Im paying over 40 pounds a month now and dont fancy paying 10 pounds a month extra for multiroom and an extra 100-200 for getting sky plus installed....any advice would be greatly appreciated...........

    Sky+ will cost you at the very very least £100 and that's with some skilled negotiation! Existing subscribers are supposed to pay £149 not sure whether this is supposed to be for installation or for the box, but anyway...

    Multiroom costs £10 on top of your sub a month, AFAIK there is no room for negotiation on that one.

    Remember though if you only watch one TV at a time (e.g. if there's only one or two of you in teh house) there's no need for multiroom, just get a video sender or TV link to pipe the signal from your existing Skybox into your 2nd TV. The number of people I have seen who've got multiroom then realised is unbelievable!

    On the subject of free channels. Most channels that you will get without the subscription are completely and utterly free - not encrypted, able to be recieved with any box even a non-Sky box. To see what these are, pull the card out and have a flicky round.

    With a "freesat from Sky" card, or an expired Sky card (the 2nd version which has a yellow house on the front) you can additionally get ITV1, CH4 and CH5. The reason for this is that having a card supposedly guarantees that you are in the UK and not some dodgy foriegner watching our TV for free :P

    Yes, this all fine. Freeview, Internet etc, etc,
    But these DO NOT GIVE YOU SKY SPORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ::) ::) ::) ::)

    Freeview does offer Sky Sports News

    if you cancel subscription to sky you cannot get ITV, C4 and C5 but you can get BBC on the sky box without a card. sky are offering at the moment a freesat card costing £20 and is valid for 3 years which includes a few channels along with ITV, C4 and C5

    I rang Sky today to cancel my subscription. I'm moving house soon, and instead of just getting Sky to move my equipment to the new house (presumably at my expense) and carry on with my old Sky box and subscription - I thought I'd be cheeky and just cancel, and then when we've moved just order as a new customer - and get all those 'new customer' benefits - free box, free installation, £30 M&S vouchers etc.

    Anyhow, rang 'em up and after being put through to the third monkey asking me why I wanted to cancel, and 'is there anything we can do to help you, sir', I finally get through to cancellations where the very first thing the man says is, 'Oh, Mr bob, I see you've been a Sky customer since 1999. And I see you have the family pack at £19.50/month. Well, would it persuade you to carry on with your subscription if I offered you both the Sky Movies and Sky Sports packages for the next 6 months at only an additional £1 a month?' !!

    Gah, why didn't I do this 6 months ago!
