When's the best time to cancel, my monthly payment is on 8th of each month? You'll Never Be Rich Working for Someone Else0

Rang SKY to cancel was kept waiting while they rack up revenue from the 0870 numer then was offered nothing. I am also concerned that they require 30 days to cancel.

Woke up this morning to find no sky signal. Hubby rang them not on their 0870 number (thanks to people on this web site and the saynot0870 number) was on hold for over 30 mins. Finally got through went through loads of press this do this try that. Now they say that my box is faulty and they want £65 just to come out and look at it. He is currently on hold to cancel sky. I'm not paying for them to come out when i pay them over £33 a month for their package. Gonna try and blag them with the fact that we used to have cable, and they have contacted us with the offer of 2 months free. Also they have no charge for call-outs if your system needs repairing.0

After a bit of discussion about how we were not prepared to pay £65 for them to come out. And a bit of telling porkies about how cable want us back. There now coming out for nothing.........funny that isn't it really.0

bit of a funny situation Sky have dug themselves into really. Back in the analogue days you paid for your own kit and for your own installation from friendly (or not!) local installation company. THEN you got your subscription from Sky and paid for it month on month. If your kit broke down you had to get it fixed yourself as Sky had nothing to do with it. Or maybe cancel if you were out of minimum period and could do without.
Now though because Sky needed to put the nail in the coffin of ondigital by giving out free dishes, boxes, installation etc, by branding the box and EPG system Sky, and by taking on the work of the vast majority of installations, everyone thinks the box and dish are part of the whole service.
So when your box or dish breaks, when back in the analogue days you would phone said friendly local installer to have a look completely at your cost, now you just phone Sky and say - box broken come and fix. When they say this will cost (probably cheaper than it used to do in the analogue days) a number of people then seem to add "...or I cancel". It seems in most cases at least, they submit when you say you'll cancel as they are under a lot of pressure to retain all customers at pretty much any cost!
...and, I think, rightly so, it's the cost Sky have to pay for using Murdoch's deep pockets to monopolise the market, destroying the free market for recievers, controlling the EPG and putting hundreds if not thousands of private satellite installation companies out of business!!
ohh that was a bit of a rant ;D0 -
