  • Hi Fenboy Steve.
I have tried the Sky discount scheme and i was so determined that i was going to be disconnected, that they did ???
I was put through to the Customer Services Dept where i ws getting nowhere with the girl on phone, who i might add had a tone to her voice of 'Not another one so soon!'. It was at that moment i thought that i am on a hiding to nothing here, but be firm.I was so firm i really got disconnected :o.I was immediately passed onto the Disconnections Dept and the rest is history ::)

This could be the new breed of Sky Cust Services Rep,BEWARE.
P.S Going to see if i can blag the Sky+ package now, what do you reckon ;D
  • When I phoned to cancel they just cancelled me, no special offers or anything. The cancellation which I did a couple of weeks ago, takes effect from tomorrow, so I was kind of hoping they'd call to make an offer I couldn't refuse, but it hasn't happened yet.

I was going to call them but I think I'll leave it and see how we do without it. Only my son is likely to kick up about it and he can go rent a film if he wants to see one :P

I figure if I come back to them after cancellation there is more likely to be leeway for a deal than if I call them the day before - chickening out! :D
  • rang Sky week or two ago said I wanted to cancel my £19.50 package because there is naff all on but repeats and the lovely girl offered me 3 months at a reduced rate of £12 :) great!

All this talk of discounts got me on the phone demanding disconnection in the quest to save cash. And this is what i will get in 2 weeks now ! No offers - a tv vasectomy http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/YaBBImages/shocked.gif
    Shocked

Having had time to consider the loss of the wonderful Sky+ and go back to 'council telly', i'm actually quite happy about keeping £34/m. I keep thinking of the times after each summer holiday when you go TV-less for 2 weeks. You read, laugh, play games and get more sleep. Perhaps disconnection might be a good thing.

Not sure the kids will agree, but hey i only got 3 channels when i were a sprog, now there's five. Perhaps a freeview box is a good compromise http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/YaBBImages/cheesy.gif
    Cheesy

I too have gone through the process, but boy do they make you jump through hoops. My normal package was family at £19, which I upped for the Ryder Cup for one month. I phoned and was offered the family for 3 months at £13.50 which I rejected and so continued the disconnection. With a week to go prior to disconnection I phoned yesterday and said I was aware that other were being offered full package for half price for three months. Operator said a strange one to me which is that they all have certain discounts they can offer at any time. These discounts vary from operator to operator and also the time of day and the number they have. Sky are complaining that they cannot have thousands of people getting Sky for half price as they are there to make a profit. This sounded true to me and therefore she was only able to offer what she was allowed to at that time. I pointed out that this therefore was valuing my previous and future custom less than other people and as such why was I a less valued customer given my 7+ years mostly at full price, with a few half price packages thrown in when I have done this prevously. She passed me on to another operator who strangely enough was able to agree to the full package half price.

One tip though is to remain polite, friendly but firm. I sensed that these "deals" will not continue for very long.

  • Well we got our cancellation, no last-minute invitations back!

After a week or two under severe family pressure (and I admit I missed some of the channels too) I called them to try to 'negotiate' a deal for returning.

First I called the new subscriptions number 08705 800 874 who said I had to call Customer Services on 08702 404040. The lady there said they could reactivate my account but couldnt' do any deals. The only way to get a deal was (a) to be a new subscriber i.e. new box and dish or (b) to be the recipient of a random phone call that their accounts dept makes offering a special deal. So I ate humble pie and reactivated, but at a lower package than before. :-[

So my game of Call My Bluff with Sky didn't work - no reason not to try though.

just now got family package reduced to £13.50 for 3 months.
said i wanted to cancel to cut my costs, was Immediately offered it.
thought about holding out for full package at half price, but that would not be saving would it!.
anyway theres so much c**p on what we already have it would just mean more c**p
  • I tried to get a reduced paskage, by cancelling as not good value for money. They however accepted my reason and have cancelled, which is due to finish in a few days time.
I called them this morning, claiming I was interested in what packages they had for offer.
    Nothing...
Contract ends in a few days, I am going to hold out for a phone call from sky.
It will do the kids good, to miss....Oh no half term.. I am calling now!!!
    worth a try though
  • Phoned Sky went down the route of not getting value for money, we are only watching BBC, ITV etc, explained that it was not really the cost, but the number of repeats on Sky, remaining very polite and genuine, (which is partially true, we are tending to watch more of the free to air than Sky), was put through to the disconnection department, and was asked the same questions, and I gave the same answers, and he offered me, very nearly begged me to try the full package for half price. So after he twisted my arm and pointed out that we would get the full package over Christmas, at no obligation to carry on after that date, I agreed I would give it a go. I will probably go to freeview in January though. ;D
