If you listen to the conversation it obvious they are not joking about there views. If what they had said had been racist or homophobic then they would have been fired. Everyone is allowed to have their own views, however if you say something that is socially unacceptable then you have to be careful and if you are caught doing it then you have to be prepared to answer for the consequences.
I feel pretty sorry for the lass, her first big premiership game where she got some close decisions right and the whole thing has been overshadowed by these two. The stick she'll now get from fans at football matches could be terrible. First offside decision she gives that the fans don't agree with they'll be chanting that Andy Gray was right etc.
I actually think that the fact they got caught was a good thing for her...I didnt know she was an assistant at the game and wouldnt have found out it it wasnt for them. Also, from what I understand she got a couple of very close decisions right again showing them up and highlighting the fact that she did a good job!
I has to be said that should 2 women get caught discussing weather or not men can iron Im sure there wouldnt be quite such an uproar;)
However, I have asked 3 women and 3 men today to explain to me the offside rule. Only 1 of the men got it vastly wrong and the women looked at me like I was mental.
Unfortunately in my small piece of research, turns out they were right.:D
GOne day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0 -

Yes but the point is not whether women in general understand the offside rule it's whether they are capable of understanding it.
These two jackasses were suggesting that women should not be match officials because women are incapable of understanding the offside rule. If they'd said: "most women don't understand the offside rule" it would probably have been a fair, if somewhat irrelevant comment. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

I realise you are being tongue in cheek about your "research" but the point here is that they were saying she wasn't qualified to do her job, purely because she was a woman. A job that she was trained to do, therefore I am sure she was 100% aware of the offside rule. It would be the same as having a woman F1 driver and people dismissing her abilities by saying "women are bad drivers". If a woman was caught discussing a man and dismissing the job he was doing and qualified for based on his gender then there would be the same issues here.
I honestly believe this Sian Massey would have rather this hadn't happened. For years now she will probably not be mentioned in the papers without this incident being brought up. She was already controversial being a woman in a male dominated profession, but now she's got this to contend with as well! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. They made comments about her sex BEFORE they said someone should go down and explain the offside rule to her - and THAT'S what makes it sexist.
Had it been a male referee thay'd have said something like 'He's got that one wrong'.0 -
I got annoyed at the Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1350265/Andy-Gray-Richard-Keys-sexism-storm-Sian-Massey-party-girl.htmlSian Massey, 25, posted photos on her MySpace page of her dancing at a party and enjoying a holiday.
So?
Are young women not allowed to dance at parties or enjoy a holiday?
And what has that of that got to do with her ability to run the line at a football match? Here I go again on my own....0 -
I note that Keys has apologised but Gray hasn't.
Perhaps Sky should send Gray on a refereeing course - only a few weeks ago this "expert" on the rules of the game was verbally berating the referee for sending a player off, thereby "ruining" the game. He then came out with "it's the referees job to keep 22 men on the pitch" - what a Wally of the first order !0 -
One of my earliest memories of football is being asked to leave the Executive Lounge at a match because the Chairman didn't like women being in there. I was around twelve years old and in there with the family of one of the players. Football has come a long way since then, but you will always get neanderthal types and the same old jokes. I just laugh them off.Personally, I thought the comments made about Karen Brady were even more rude.
Karren Brady is an oddity. She is highly capable in what she does, however there is no doubting that she has relied heavily on her sexuality to get where she is. For that reason I find her a tad hypocritical - she has played the game to advance her career, but then tries to play the sexism card ... You can't have it both ways!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Hear! Hear!
Andy Gray is a waste of space. £1.7 million a year? I wouldn't pay him in washers.
He should be kept off air until he apologises.0
