Another Young Driver Horror Story!

I wish they would change it so you can take lessons at 17, but cant do theory and practical tests untill your atleast 18.
I hate stupid little boys/girls who turn 17 go out and try do 25-30 lessons and say their ready to be driving alone.
What a silly, pompous, post - everybody who learns to drive is different. Youngsters pick up things far more quickly than older people, so why shouldn't a 17 year old be ready to drive alone after 25-30 lessons any less that a middle aged woman who may take 60 lessons to pass? The examiners obviously think they are else they would fail their tests!
The issue is that some individuals of 17 should not be behind the wheel at any age regardless of experience - neither should some individuals who are much older and have more experience, so in your view are more suitable.
You are of course, entitled to your opinion, but making such a geralisation is not helpful.0 -
Have you tried ecar?
When my husband first passed his test thats who he used and they was quite reasonable. He was 22 when he passed though They do a payg insurance and after 8 months of being with them get a years no claims.
also Zurich was quite reasonable for us,0 -

And what about those of a certain vintage who never took driving tests?"Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world."— Frank Warren0 -
There's been quite a bit on this thread about, garaging, old cars easy to break into, insurance groups etc..... None of these really affect the price a 17 year old is going to pay. The cost is all based on the risk he poses.0

That is predominantly true but the other factors do play a small part and can help to shave a few hundred pounds off an extortionate bill. Trust me, we ran almost every combination of cars/drivers/scenarios through comparison sites to find out how best to reduce the bill.
I'd like to know how those who claim to have found insurance for less than £2K for a newly qualified 17yo male driver managed it!! I find it difficult to believe they have, at least not in the last 6mths!!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

It's possible they live in a much "better" postcode than you.
By better I simply mean cheaper from an insurance point of view.
Posher areas are not necessarily cheaper as there can be more thefts from desireable areas.
If your postcode is expensive then there is nowt you can do (except move).
You can't make direct comparisons with people who live in cheaper postcodes.0 -
A friend of mine (she's 19) just signed a contract with only young drivers and she's really satisfied with it compared to the other quotes she had . She also added her dad as a named driver which helped he price drop by 800 pounds. My policy is expiring in march with admiral, and I'm really tempted to switch to these guys.0

if you are going with a classic car - try some other classic car brokers and schemes for the particular car you are after - look on owners club websites etc for good places to try.0

I really wanted a classic car when I was buying mine. I found THE cheapest car to insure was a 2CV. AND its a convertible! How many 17 year olds drive convertibles?
You need to know what you're doing with them though because they're quite simply a badly built car, but great fun, very practical too with 4 doors. They're not as cheap to buy as they were 10 or 15 years ago though (when my parents owned them). 0 -

Ecar are the cheapest on all of the comparison websites, but there still 3.5k+ But thanks for the suggestion, it might be worth giving them a call and seeing if i can knock it down, but i dont think they would knock 1.5k off lmao so it may be a pointless task!
Id just like to say a quick thank you to anyone whos helped me on here, because you guys have certainly shown me a few more options and ways to cut some money out of the price. Thanks for all your help.0
