I would like a permanent job, as opposed to seasonal or such like as I need a regular income really for rent and bills..

Same here, but by the looks of it I'm going to have to take a seasonal job to pay the bills. That will by me until October to find something permanent.

......... and is just an excuse for the place to make more money.

How can they be making money when they give it away free to employees on break? If you are working a shift, you are entitled to free food, to a certain amount, to eat. If you know how to cook, or have a friendly grill person on, you can have it made to your specification. Many a time I've had made myself double cheeseburgers with lettuce and mayo :).

McDonalds do have salads you know :)

McDonalds do indeed allow you to have free food for your break, they do give you a limit on how much you can have, but where i worked they were pretty lax on how much eat worker was eating for break, i used to customize my Fillet, with Mayo instead of Tarter Sauce, having a full slice of Cheese instead of half, and adding some lettuce as well!!

I worked from Oct 09 to Jabn '10 It was located in my home town centre.

When it was busy boy you knew it.

if you were cooking there were about two hour segments during the day where you did nothing but cook burgers.

    Stressful job IMHO.
  • I loved working in McDonalds! Was there from 2000 - 2006 and it completely changed my life - I made loads of new friends (one of whom is my chief bridesmaid!) became confident and happy, and was able to afford to do everything I wanted. I have the best memories there, was headhunted by other stores (with paid travel time of course) so got to meet even more people (crew parties anyone?) and all the work I did training up the new starters came in really useful when I went to apply for my PGCE. All with hours that completly suited me (lots when I was poor, no hassle when I was studying). I got very fit (16 hours on till at Christmas... I was hardcore!), and quickly learnt how to function with a hangover (8am starts on Sunday mornings every week when I was 18).

All the stores I worked in would let you eat their food for free (within reason) or go out or bring your own. I can highly recommend the Salads with Filet o' Fish instead of Chicken and Sweet Chilli sauce :). Yes the smell doesn't go but you get used to it after a while. I used to be awful at Ajaxing, and my sweeping/mopping skills left a lot to be desired (even after the store manager personally showing me how it should be done) but I worked hard, was fast and friendly, and can honestly say I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

Oh, and my fianc! worked in his local Maccers back in the day too!
