I've spoken to a lot of recent graduates who can't get work because they didn't have a job during university. I'm just graduating this summer, and tried to get into McDonalds a few times recently - rejected every time at the first stage. I suspect it's the food hygiene certificate.
Actually, as a manager, I was required to complete a 2-day external course to gain a level 3 award in supervising food safety in catering. Contrary to popular belief, McDonalds don't just employ idiots, and are now an awarding body, so the english and maths they offer are the equivalent of A-C GCSEs, the apprenticeship programme is the equivalent of 5 of those, and you can earn more nationally recognised qualifications as you progress through the company.
Maybe you didn't score high enough on the psychometric test.0 -

I didn't even get past the application stage for a team member job. Or do McD psychometric test for shop level jobs now?
McD obviously know something that KPG or Goldman Sachs don't know in psychometric testing then as I passed their graduate level testing!0 -
I am actually near York
I go uni in Leeds and live in Howden near Goole, 20 mins from York.
Do some research, they'll be screaming for staff in a month or so. I love York, very jealous.
What about the University?
I've just been offered a job interview at Edinburgh University. McD obviously know something that they don't too.0 -

York is lovely..I've been looking at the shopping centre McArthur Glen, but not seen anything great, but there are jobs that I should just apply for...

Thanks for backing me up, Dawnster, I'm one of the ML Tutors.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I applied for a team member type position at my local Maccy D's last year. I didn't even get past the application stage so you have all done better than I did.
I guess my 8 years working as a waitress while I was in the 6th form and at university didn't count for much.
The rejection was the best thing that ever happened as I haven't stepped foot in a Mc Donalds since :rotfl:
Good luck with the interview!Attempting to make £2021 in 20210 -

Same here! I think we're too experienced.
Your last comment just reminded me of the last time I ate in McD's (2007.) I was driving from Newcastle to Stirling, normally I would stop for a coffee and sandwich at the Morrison's cafe at Berwick, but it was evening so I had to make do with McD's. My mistake came when I ordered a burger. By the time I got to Stirling (about 1 hour 30) I had the s***s and felt like I was dying. I haven't eaten fast food since.:p
Good luck with the job hunt GeeGee. My sister just got a letter from Historic Scotland telling her she has an interview at Stirling Castle on the 15th.
Have you tried asking at the Yorvick centre if they are going to hire?0 -
I'll have a look at the Yorvic Centre and see..
I've so far amassed 30 CV's and covering letters to all Quantity Surveying firms within 30 miles lol. Still loads to go but ran out of envelopes lol.
I would like a permanent job, as opposed to seasonal or such like as I need a regular income really for rent and bills..9/70lbs to lose0
