Good Luck hope your experience is better than mine,
Had 2 interviews and during second was supposed to work on window for 15 minutes. Turned up and told them i arrived. Sat in restaurant for 1 hour on a dirty table with chips and sauce all over it to be told no point doing windows since jobs went. ON leaving 2 young kids came in and said they were here for same reason i was. Surely enough went back and 16 year olds working their. They don't like us they need to pay a half decent min wage0 -

It's OK work, it's fun and it'll take any snobbery you may have (well I had!) and make you look at those less fortunate than youself in a much more positive light. It won't be the job of a lifetime. And you smell a bit burgery when you get home.. but you'll not regret it.
OMG!!!!
Ajaxing!!
Sadly I was one of the few in our store who could do it well using cloths (rather than napkins which was frowned upon) so I spent many a close up to my elbows in ajax and hot water. (beat doing dive tho!)
It's only a game

Nothing wrong with starting in McDonalds to gain work experience. I started out in the canteen at Gala Bingo, and ended up a tourism manager. What you would also find if you have no experience, in a student area, competition is hot.
I've spoken to a lot of recent graduates who can't get work because they didn't have a job during university. I'm just graduating this summer, and tried to get into McDonalds a few times recently - rejected every time at the first stage. I suspect it's the food hygiene certificate.0 -
The McD's near me, the manager banned people from taking their own food to work AND stopped people leaving the premises for breaks.... Workers were basically forced to purchase McD's food every day (which is damn expensive).
I've heard similar stories elsewhere, but i've also heard of others which were great.... McD's are franchised, it's really all down to the individual management style.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I used to work for Pizza Hut in my first year of college. It was understaffed and really hard work and the pay was poor (I was under 18) but the people there were the most fun and we got free/very discounted pizza. I wouldn't go back and do it now I don't think but I would recommend it to a student just starting out. Now I don't think I'd cope with the pressure too well!
Good luck with your interview x0 -
Thanks for the further comments, good and bad
The only thing I'm worried about is being 27, this isn't my first job, I've worked since I was 16, and even run my own business for 3 years, been a mortgage advisor, an assistant manager in a clothing retail store etc etc.. am I going to really hate this?!9/70lbs to lose0 -

When I worked there the staff all got a free McD's meal every day if they wanted it. (I didn't after about two weeks, and haven't eaten the stuff since I left, just can't see it as food now!) They aren't all franchises either.
I'm pretty sure manager who doesn't allow staff off the premises would actually be breaking employment law.0 -

Possibly, but such is life!
You won't be the only person in a similar position, lots are having to do jobs that they wouldn't have considered a few years ago.0 -
My God what about the health implications of being forced to eat McDs food every day. This is unreasonable. Surely if someones health, weight or cholesterol was affected (and slim people can have high cholestorol and just not know it) and this affected their health or at worst caused a heart attack i think this manager would have been liable. I would certainly be seeking my doctors advice on this if i worked there so at the very least it would be on my medical records if something happened to me that my employer contributed towards my possible illness or possible death.0
