Just thread hopping... Kerri I'm in exactly the same situation with my DH, going to talk to consultant about it with DH there. There's quite a few good home birth websites. Hope you get somewhere!
*clears off back to less than 12 weeks thread!*First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -
Poor you star shinning, hope you're feeling better today.
All my appts are late, my booking in was at 12+3 so I couldn't book a 16 week check til nearly 18 weeks and my 20 week scan will be at 21+6! I've had no letter etc re 16 week appt so no idea what to take along etc, will give midwife a call this week cos I'm sure I'm due (another) blood test but don't know where when etc. I do think sometimes there is an assumption that we all know exactly what to do where and when but i feel like I could do with a manual sometimes! Fran-O i found this page:
http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/antenatal-appointment-schedule.aspx
but I agree, they don't seem to give you much information apart from ALL THE LEAFLETS IN ALL THE WORLD, just expect you to turn up and they'll do what they want with you lol
Kerri it may be that your DH is like me and has no experience of home births- I'm also of the opinion that hospitals are where babies are born and until I got pregnant it genuinely never occured to me that you'd give birth anywhere else.
So I'd start by explaining all the reasons why you want a home birth and what advantages you think it would have for you and the positive experiences people have had that make it seem to you like a very special way to have your child.
Feeling a lot better recently, mainly cos my bump looks huuge! but that'll be because it's mainly fat. still, have only put on 5Lbish and only belly has grown so i'm doing good
Never realised before how long a time nine months really is. I've still got just under 10 weeks til baby is viable then another 16 til full term!Little Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Hi all
I know a few who have had home births and have highly recommended it. They say its so much more relaxed, more comfortable in your own home. If I hadn't had problems with my first birth I would opt for a home birth this time.
I felt so tired and achy last night, it's probably baby growing/ stretching everything but I felt so rough. I feel very tired today just me and the little man at home. unfortunately 3 year olds don't understand pregnancy tiredness!Trying to save for a deposit

hey all.
Got a scan date through today and now I dont know if it is for my 20 week scan or the extra scan ??
midwife phoned this morning my iron levels are okay but my stores are very very low?? She has asked me to contact the doctor about Iron tablets. Now I suffer IBS and get both constipation and diarrhoea I know it is mad! will the Iron tablets make the IBS worse?
Anyone on iron tablets?Just take each day as it comes.
Bump due 18th January :j0 -
Star, I was on iron tablets (with IBS) for months and months before the BFP and it did make me constipated. I would recommend a high dose acidophilus (good bacteria for the gut) supplement at mealtime (s) to help things "move", if it diodes become a problem for you. Vitamin C helps you absorb the iron, (as does folic acid) so taking it with fresh orange juice would be a good idea. If constipation gets too bad they can prescribe lactulose to help out - I took senna but that was before the bfp

OH has gone and thrown a spanner in the works...the (now dreaded after what she did at the weekend) MIL is going to stay from xmas until I give birth and possibly afterwards. We need to have a BIG talk about this as I am totally not happy.
REALLY not sure I want a home birth with her around, how do you kick your MIL out of the house when you are giving birth?
Oh well at least the OH is now starting to engage with me on the whole pregnancy thing at least so I can't complain too much. Ideally I'd like a home birth, with just myself, the OH and the midwife. I think if the MIL has to be there, then she can be in a different room and under strict conditions that ANY coming near me she will be kicked out the house.
I'm also looking into hypnobirthing to help with breathing and relaxation, hoping it'll go well with the pregnancy yoga I'm going to go to.
Oh and what the MIL did this weekend...OH and I had a heated discussion about him keeping his bicycle in the kitchen instead of the shed...we worked out a resolution that he puts a stand on the wall and that was the end of it. She chirped up an hour later bringing the whole thing up again resulting in me stupidly biting at the OH and us having a big fall out....urgh! Also, realised this isn't the first time she's done such a thing.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

No chance I'd have my MIL anywhere near me for a long period of time, let alone staying in my house! When I gave birth she came up with some lame excuse to come to the hospital to see my daughter. I have literally just given birth and she happened to be there! Crazy !!!!!!
I'd put my foot down and say she can come for Christmas and then ask her to go away until after the baby has come. When you're trying to bond with LO the last thing you want is your MIL hovering around if you don't really get on.
My MIL !!!!!! me off when she comes to visit she always knows better. She was funny with me breastfeeding saying formula was good enough for all her boys and they've turned out okay. She's funny with me using cloth nappies and just generally tries to undermine me.
I could go on and on and on!!! :rotfl:Got married 13/11/10

Oh God, some amazing MILs out there! Why on earth is your MIL coming to stay for so long Kerri?! I'd go absolutely MENTAL if my OH organised that without discussing it with me first, especially with it overlapping your due date! If she does have to stay, you have to be very clear about your house rules, make sure that you have plenty of time away from her and state very clearly in 1 syllable words that she is to be nowhere near you when you give birth!
Seriously though, the one tip I've heard again and again from people is to spend the first couple of weeks with just your OH and your baby, let close family see him/her when first born then ask them to stay away so you can bond as a little family. How can you do that with her in the house? You'll end up resenting her for intruding on that special time.
And in other news, I had a dream that I had a little boy (random, I've been feeling 'girl' the whole time! Wonder if that's a sign?!) but we had nothing prepared! I had to wrap him in towels because we had no clothes for him, he slept in a drawer because we didn't have a cot, we had no pram etc and my family were all there but were refusing to help because it was our own fault we were so unprepared! Woke up feeling a bit jittery!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
