Faerie, I've had some pretty sharp pains just above my pubic bone. I read up on it and it can just be your uterus stretching. I get quite a few aches and pains, they don't tell you about those before you're pregnant. Also, I was still feeling sick until a few weeks ago the heat didn't help and I'm sure the only reason I actually vomited the one time was due to the heat. Take it easy with those shifts, I'm planning on working as late as possible then taking my remaining annual leave before going on mat leave.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

I'm planning (in my head, not told boss) to finish just before Christmas, so 35 weeks ish, using annual leave up first. But it depends on how long I can drive comfortably for, as work is 30 motorway miles away.
And I most probably won't be going back there, it's not a job that lends itself well to family my life, especially so far away and DH's wage comfortably covers the bills so I don't have to work but will probably get an evening retail job for treats/holidays/my sanityLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Last time I was due on Thurs 15th March so I finished on Friday 9th March. She didn't come out until the 25th so I sat at home for over 2 weeks!
I'm going to try and do similar with this one. I'm due Thurs 21st Nov so I am going to aim to finish on Sat 9th Nov so my official last day will be the 14th Nov (I get 5 rest days as I do 5 on and 5 off).
I'm not sure how much we can afford for maternity leave. I get 18 weeks full pay or I can take 13 weeks at full pay and 10 weeks at half pay. It all depends on DH as he gets bonuses so obviously if he gets large bonuses I can afford to take more time if not I'll have to go back Mar/April time.
If I can I want to breastfeed as long as I can. I managed almost 14 mths with DD1, it was hard going expressing in work, but it wasn't that bad as I went back when she was 10 mths so she was only having 2 feeds a day so I could feed her once a day and express for the other feed.
If I go back after the 18/23 weeks they will still be feeding a lot as DD1 was weaned onto 3 meals at 18/23 weeks they would be on 1 meal if any at all.
I hope DH manages to get some business in so gets some bonuses or for us to win the lottery!!
My sister just won HK $9,600- roughly £700 when she was in Hong Kong on holiday. Oh well payday tomorrow which will all be spent on my credit cards from holiday!
On a happier note I have started my Christmas shopping!!Got married 13/11/10

Hi there
Was trying to work out maternity leave today, it was quite confusing, maternity maths...
My edd is 28th Jan, I'm planning to finish before Christmas either friday 13th or some time the following week, so sometime around 34-35 weeks. Planning for my official mat leave to begin mid Jan but to tag annual leave onto the front. I'll also have some annual leave to go after. How much depends on whether we go away in September and for how long. I'm lucky I work in the NHS (non-clinical) so the mat leave seems pretty good and I'm planning to take the full year though the last few months will be a bit of a shock I'm sure.
How is everyone. I'm still super-tired though otherwise feeling pretty healthy. Belly is getting a little fuller and harder though I don't really look pregnant yet, just chubby! I've had some odd pains and aches too, things stretching i guess... takes me by surprise each time! Emotionally pretty wobbly, work is stressing me out more than usual. I am Impressed by the pregnant house movers! :Tfran-o0 -

Hi Faerie, I was a nurse before I had DD and I left work at 34 weeks. I knew I wouldn't be going back after having DD so timing wasn't so much an issue.
I worked in a private nursing home and found the workload really hard after about 32 weeks. Part of that was because I was the sole nurse in charge of 45 residents  (obviously there were carers too) I felt it was unfair on my residents to go too close to EDD as 1. there would have been serious issues if I'd have gone into labour - would've had to have waited for another nurse to come and relieve meand 2. I couldn't do things like bathing , dressing changes etc very easily as couldn't get physically close enough. I note you say you are on a ward, though, so there may not be the same issues, if HCAs do most of the washing and you have more up to date equipment than we had.
Also I think it's a great opportunity to boost your maternity income by doing the extra weekends and nights - you have a test period for your SMP so get those earnings ramped up for when you're getting the initial 90%!! :T The NHS do a fab maternity packageHowever do check when your test period is - it's usually 8 weeks ENDING the payday prior to the 15th week before your baby is due, ie 25 weeks, so it would start around 17 weeks for 8 weeks. Check with HR. Don't go doing nights in your 3rd trimester unneccessarily! I hope this makes sense!
IME Christmas is important with a LO but New Year's - not so much :rotfl: So I'd possibly be thinking of leaving sometime between Xmas and New Year with the intention of working New Year's Eve 2014 into 2015. If you do long days you could potentially finish on Boxing Day or something. I know you may not get the big old send off if your dept is running on skeleton staff, but wouldn't it be a fab Christmas present?!0 -

. However, if told a boy then it's definitely a boy. We just need our little girl to be confirmed at 20w scan.
.
Nothing is definite until baby is born!
I finish work at the end of August (YIPEE) but I start my new Uni degree in September so will be going until baby is born. It's a bit easier to plan as I'll be having a section (I don't know why I'm trying to pretend I will do anything else...) so I'll hopefully only end up missing the last week or so of term. 37 weeks is about 7th December but that's a Saturday so she'll be born sometime the following week.
Not sure what I'm doing about returning for the second term....cross that bridge when I come to it. It's impossible to plan - pregnancy and childbirth has so many variables.
My SIL is a nurse and she finished at something like 30 weeks. No reason other than that she didn't want to be there anymore. She works in palliative care and found it increasingly tough. The NHS have a brilliant mat package....hopefully I'll get to use it when I qualify!
Zippy - OH and I just met a friend of ours whilst out walking and she didn't know I was pregnant but it was the first thing she noticed so perhaps my view is just a bit warped! I had a vest top on though so the bump was quite prominent. I'll take a picture and upload it if everyone else does the same14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130
