That sucks that it'll fall before your qualifying week, you'll still get MA and any redundancy pay though. I wouldn't worry about the CV gap as redundancy and pregnancy explain the longer time off.0

Hi All
Well it's looking like I will be made redundant shortly - the company is centralising the team to head office which is miles away from where I live. it's a fair reason to get rid of us, so not a lot I can do, but it's not great timing. I'm not sure exactly of the timescales but I'm likely to be out the door before my qualifying week so I won't get any maternity pay, I'll have to claim maternity allowance. I'm more bothered about the big gap on my CV to be honest, when I am looking for another job in a year it won't look great that I've been out of work for that time.
Couldn't be worse timing really, as I know work have already replaced me with someone permanent in the London office, I could kick up a fuss and see if I get any compensation, but not sure how far that will get me.
Not sure what to do with myself for the next few months now, it's five months til I'm due and it's not really feasible to get another job with my health problems which will only get worse as the pregnancy progresses. I know a lot of people would kill for five months with nothing to do but when it's forced upon you like this, it's not pleasant!
Hope everyone else is doing ok and congrats on the scans.
So sorry to hear this. What crappy news love. Fingers crossed it's not as soon as you think.0 -
Back from the scan. No anomolies and definetely a girl.
The sonographer was showing us the babies eyelashes and everything, was quite scary just how clear the pictures were!
So excited and scared about mine. 2 weeks tomorrow so ought to put it out of my head till closer to time but I wish it was done! !! Dying to see my baby and that alls ok. I wish j could have a scan every week just so I can see what the little monkey's up to0 -

It does, but in a tough marketplace it would be easy for a prospective new employer to think that I may not be as committed an employee as I'll have a small child (actually two!). Also my skills may go a little rusty. I suppose no point worrying about what may happen in the future. I have to stay strong and try and enjoy the time off with my other child, and in a few months time the new baby. I suppose in several years time when I'm working hard every day I'll look back and wish for this time off again!
I do have a cunning plan up my sleeve for how to possibly make my employer pay me some compensation, as I said previously I work in HR so know the rules. I'm going to put my energies into that for now and see how far I get.
Oh well gotta keep some perspective so long as the baby's ok everything else is secondary.0 -
Good luck for your scan today Bella0

I think that if I go off sick in the last 4 weeks before my due date then maternity leave kicks in straight away - then I would lose my annual leave. So no point saving it for the last few weeks. Do you think I should use up my annual leave whilst I have a chance to move around a bit more and enjoy it or leave some of it for the last trimester?
Be nice to myself, I had the same question.... spend some time off now when I am not quite so big or save it up to have later when I think I will be feeling more tired and need the rest?
Im sort of doing a bit of both. I have booked a few odd days off and planned one day to have lunch out with a mate, an afternoon off for a pregnancy massage and a day for some shopping to get bits I need for my hospital bag. Im then booking one day off a week for the last month to make my working week only 4 days and then having a week off just before my maternity leave starts effectively finishing a week earlier. If at first you dont succeed, try, try again0 -

On a good note I got some crutches from the physio and a referral for aqua natal classes. I should buy shares in ncp who own the hospital carpark, I'm up to £24 in parking now and still no baby! It will cost a bomb on the actual day
On a good note - I have bought some goodies from eBay - finally found some nice jeans and dresses. So my leggings and yoga pants can be given a rest.
I'm still on the hunt for a decent maternity bra. Has anyone found one?
I bought some comfy maternity bras in debenhams after pigpen reccomended them. Pick a blue cross sale day too for some money offIf at first you dont succeed, try, try again0 -
In terms of holiday - I've booked 30th-11th October off (due 17th Oct) with maternity after that. My work policy also says if you're ill in the last for weeks, maternity kicks in, but it also any unused holiday will be paid to you.
I'm starting to feel a bit daunted now. People in work (that I hadn't told) are starting to notice now. One of them even said that they weren't sure initially if it was baby or fat, but then I keep getting bigger so they guessed baby. Cheek!
16+1Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0
