    Morning!

Has anyone got any experience of having pregnancy induced carpel tunnel syndrome?? All of my symptoms point to it and I am going to do my uptmost to get past the gestapo who currenly masquerade as the doctors receptionist when they open in a short while.

Yeah, I had a touch of it in my left hand. General aching, particularly in my little finger and it would 'twang' like it had an elastic band in it - bit difficult to describe. It was worse in the morning. No treatment necessary and it went as soon as I had the baby.

  • When did everyone start to show?

I'm convinced my belly is just full of wind!

I can't remember from last time, although I did take pics all the way through, I cleverly forgot to label the early ones.

    Thanks for the reply.

Mine is very painful, weak and numb but I have also found a lump in my wrist that wasn't there before.

MV - I pretty much started to show from the getgo. Horrible bloating to begin with and, when that went, my bump was revealed. Just like magic lol

I've not had it in pregnancy, but I've had both of my wrists operated on as my right one flared up last Spring and they operated when I was 12 weeks to stop it getting worse.

The easiest test is to angle your hand down as tight as possible to your wrist, hold for a couple of minutes - if you get pain or numbness in the first half of your hand (thumb & first two fingers). Not the most comfortable test but it's what the drs will do.

Just seen your other post about a lump, that's not usually associated with carpal tunnel, more likely a ganglion.

I was told they rarely operate in pregnancy as the healing is fairly long-winded, mine has taken a lot longer this time and I'm still going to need physio (when I can find time!) as my thumb has very little strength.

Best home advice, buy a carpal tunnel splint guard for at night if you get a lot of pain in the morning as you're probably angling your wrist at night, heat pads are great - the hand ones usually have their own little glove so you don't have to hold them on and when the pain subsides - a powerball is really good for strengthening it back up.

My expert subject unfortunately, been suffering with my wrists for nine years now :(
  • Mv i didnt show until about 18weeks! I had a hard lump after 13weeks, when i went to my 16week appt i was worried that i should have been bigger but mw said baby was very low down. 21+2 now and my bump has only really started to pop out over the past 2 weeks!

MV, I didn't show til about 16 weeks this time. And then it seemed to pop within a couple of weeks, so I needed maternity trews from about 18 weeks. I'm just getting to the point now at 23 weeks that my regular tops are getting a bit tight so I'm going to have to dig out some maternity ones.

  • I've not been on if a while, but it's great to read that the scans have gone well for everyone, and some new people have joined the thread - congratulations!

MV, I bought my first pair of maternity jeans after my 12 week scan as my trousers weren't comfortable any more. I've noticed I've been getting bigger since then, but it's only in the past couple of weeks that it's been more obvious to others and people at work (who I hadn't already told) have asked me if I'm pregnant (I'm 21+4 today).

I agree that so much of the baby marketing implies you are a bad parents if you don't have x, y, z, and it's easy to get carried away and think you need everything. I don't know why, but mentally it feels like such a massive step to make that first purchase, and I haven't bought anything yet as I don't want to waste money on stuff I don't need. Ideally I'd like to get as much as I can second hand. I know some of you have gone through this all before, so it would be good to know what you think the essentials actually are, especially for the early days. I'm off to an nct sale tomorrow morning, and I can just imagine myself being completely overwhelmed by everything and coming home with nothing! The next one is 2 days before my due date so it would be good to make the most of this one if I can. Thanks!

It's funny that you should mention that because my doctor doesn't think that it is carpel tunnel either. She thinks that it is a ganglion, too and I have been referred to see a specialist. She told me, in a jokey manner, that they used to cure them by hitting them with a Bible - eek!!!!!

I just have to keep it strapped up, take paracetamol and wait for the referral.

Thanks for your advice. Poor you though. You don't realise how important your wrists are until they start to hurt and feel weak.
