It's such a big industry these days isn't it MrsJ? It's just as bad as the wedding industry can be at times - if you don't go for the biggest, best and most expensive then you are doing it wrong! Load of rubbish! Most of my gear will be second hand from my Sis and the stuff she hasn't kept a hold of I will be sensible about and not go overboard due to pushy sales assistants! Grrrrr! Your poor friend shouldn't have been made to feel like that!
I think it's worse than the wedding industry in some ways, because with baby stuff they can make you feel guilty about not prioritising your baby's well being. I mean, surely my baby will not hate me forever if I don't buy a wet wipe warmer? (This is not meant as a dig at anybody who has a wet wipe warmer, I just don't see it as an essential!)
Anyone want to time travel with me to the 50s? It'll also mean I don't have to go back to work0 -
We went for the Maxi Cosi seat Mrsj, along with the family fix base, which I really like, and it also means that now DS is older, his next seat up will still work on the same base.
Of course we'll probably have to buy another one now for the new bubMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Most things there is no need to buy before baby arrives. As long as you have some clothes, some way to get them home from hospital and somewhere for them to sleep, you'll be fine.
We didn't buy our baby bath til DS was a few weeks old and I'd decided sink bathing or me getting in the big bath with him wasn't working for us. Baby things are so easy to get hold of that you can wait until you're sure you need something before forking out.
In the depths of winter, if I think DS's wet wipes are too cold, I just shove a couple down my cleavage while I'm getting his trousers off and nappy unfastened - warms them up lovely
I'm afraid I won't be joining you in the 50s, Mrsj, as that would mean I'd have to do the cooking. In our house that's a job that's definitely best left to DH!You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -

This is an excellent point. DH does all of our cooking too... it's ok, it'll be a sort of pick and choose 1950s - for example I'll have a washing machine and a vacuum cleaner :rotfl:0 -
If I can keep the dishwasher too, as well as delegating the cooking to DH, then I'm right there with you in the 50's!You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0

Thats exactly what I have opted for MrsJ - Maxi Cosi Cabriofix £94 from Amazon - but got OH to sign up to family thing (as I had already signed up myself) for an extra tenner off. Plus Family Fix base from Halfords with a 10% off voucher - so £126 but they are selling for at least £80 second hand on Ebay so I guessed I would recoup some cash later on.
I did loads of research on car seats and this seemed the most cost effective thing (and just watch a Youtube video on using a seatbelt fixing alone on a Maxi Cosi car seat - it would drive me potty with a 3 door car nd probably wake baby if it was asleep!) - plus, Maxi Cosi will fit on quite a few branded pushchairs - it will fit on my bargain Obaby pram with adapters.
Ooohhh....I am loving the tummy tub thing! I did a search on Amazon and they have some lovely pink ones for £15 - although I did think it might be the same as putting baby in a bucket....a tummy tub sounds and looks really cute!!!! (I was sucked in by the video on their website!!!)0 -

When you say your OH knows what the baby is but you wont know for 10 days, is that the gender?
Oh and make sure your company sort out your risk assessment. They are breaking the law otherwise!
Yeah, am 20+4 now! Yeah he knows the gender but I'll find out at my baby shower as my friend wanted to do me a gender reveal cake!
Great to see you on this threadFinally, got a meeting sorted with line manager to do this next week, it's taken ages for them to decide on the procedure!

Congratulations on your scans Sparkles and NikkiAnn! Glad they went well, and Sparkles I couldn't have hubby know and not know myself, you are being so good!
Hope the cold has eased MiniMuffin, I'm sitting with both girls and hubby all off sick, eldest has been off all week and youngest joined her on Tuesday so I'm praying it passes me by! I ended up sitting with eldest in bathroom on Tuesday night trying to get her steamed, her chest is just loaded.
Am laughing at the kitchen sink baths, I think there are lots of pics of me in various sinks and basins!!!
I have my first physio session today, obsteatrician said she wanted to refer me sooner rather than later because I had SPD with both previous pregnancies and actually ended up on crutches at 5 months pregnant with youngest - hoping I can avoid that this time around (especially as we're planning to go to USA over Easter for 2 weeks and I need to be able to walk!!!)Norn Iron Club member 273:beer:0 -
