Oh p00! Poor you apricot. I'm hoping that if I ignore it may go away (it worked with a sore throat recently). Any ideas if rest or exercise is best?

Stolen from Babycentre again although no idea if it works. I tried ignoring it but it does seem to be getting worse - told OH we are going to have to get a stairlift installed in the building soon!:rotfl:

    Self-help tips

There are things you can do yourself to ease your pain:
    • Regular pelvic floor and tummy exercises can ease the strain on your pelvis. Get down onto your hands and knees and level your back so that it is roughly flat. Breathe in and then as you breathe out, squeeze in your pelvic floor muscles and at the same time pull your belly button in and up. Hold this contraction for between five and 10 seconds without holding your breath and without moving your back. Relax the muscles slowly at the end of the exercise.
    • Avoid moving your legs apart when your back is slumped or you are lying down. Take care when getting in and out of the car, bed or bath. If you are lying down, pulling your knees up as far as you can stops your pelvis from moving and makes it easier to part your legs. If you are sitting, try arching your back and sticking your chest out before parting or moving your legs, as this also helps to stop the pelvis from moving.
    • Avoid pushing through any pain. If something hurts, if possible don't do it. If the pain is allowed to flare up, it can take a long time to settle down again.
    • Move little and often. You may not feel the effects of what you are doing until later in the day or after you have gone to bed.
    • Rest regularly by sitting on an exercise or birth ball or by getting down on your hands and knees. This takes the weight of the baby off your pelvis and holds it in a stable position.
    • Avoid heavy lifting or pushing. Supermarket trolleys can often make your pain worse, so shop online or ask someone to shop for you.
    • When climbing stairs, go up them one step at a time. Step up onto one step with your best leg and then bring your other leg to meet it. Repeat with each step. Only use stairs when you have to.
    • Avoid swimming breaststroke and take care with other strokes. You may feel swimming is helping your pain while you are in the water, but it could make you feel worse when you get out.
    • When getting dressed, sit down to pull on your knickers or trousers.

    thanks apricot.
its not nice someone in pain, but im glad im not the only one if that makes sense!

im hoping that if i have to endure months of pain because of the pelvis separating then birth wont be as painful as there should be plenty of room down there to squeeze baby out!

+1 for lower back/pelvis pain here. I'm only just coming up to 16 weeks so really hope it's not a sign of worse to come. Was really sore last night after vigorous hoovering yesterday and pushing a trolley round the supermarket. Mine is all in the lower back, at the back of my pelvis so with the help of dr google have diagnosed myself with pelvic girdle pain. Back gives a horrible click when getting in and out of bath and car. I'd echo the tips apricot posted. Sitting on gym ball for a while each evening is strengthening core muscles, legs together and twist out if car rather than stepping with one leg first, don't sit with legs crossed, pillow between knees when sleeping on side. I did all these last week and felt miles better but then forgot a few days an back to square one. Learnt my lesson now.

    Hi all,

Hubby poured me half a glass of red for the movie last night (Fight Club) but I only managed 3 slips and fell asleep half way through movie anyway... :p

BCS sorry to hear your news - if you had the mastectomy 4 years aho, and it can reoccurr within 3 years, hopefully when you are tested again you'lll be in the clear, it's so not what you'd expected them to tell you right now *hugs*.

My mum had the same 2 years ago, was a double mastectomy, and has just had a tumor appear inside her throat, we're hoping it will all be ok and isn't the cancer coming back. They have said it's not spreading which is at least something. Hoping she will hear more within 2-3 weeks when biopsy results come back.

Finally got some maternity jeans today bl**dy Debenhams have ONE rack of maternity items, so I had to buy Red Herring jeans at £32 because they fit... in another store though got a stretchy wrap dress for £9, and a cream cardi in New Look reduced by £5, to £12.99 so quite pleased. Hard to get maternity clothes anyway, let alone petite ones... grumble over, at least I have a few bits now! :)

Been shattered today, so much for yesterdays' energy, so just chilling now... :o

So sorry to hear about your mum Sparkle ((hugs)). :(

Having Cancer once is bad enough you don't expect to have to worry about it again.

I hope everything works out ok for her.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

My friend developed quite bad spd in her last pregnancy, I was so hoping I'd escape it but i've had quite bad pain for the last 2 weeks on the insides of the tops of my thighs. Feels like strained ligaments or something after you've done loads of exercise (haha!! as if!). I noticed it when I cross and uncross my legs a couple of weeks ago, and it's not gone, and I'm now starting to feel it when I walk and turn over in bed. I'm only 13 weeks :-( I don't have any back pain though it does hurt sitting my my chair at work (but I put that down to the padding not being what it used to be!).

I'm the same Claireloo - there was a nct sale this weekend but I resisted because there's another in June so I'm aiming for that one. We are hopefully finding out the flavour next week, are you? We weren't going to but my control freak streak means I have too! Are you?

No decided not too although we are both very tempted. Still I figure I'll have made it half way so only another 20 weeks until we find out for sure!!!

Sorry for the ladies with SPD. I have sciatica but its not really that bad. Just gets me from time to time and I am temporarily paralysed but after a few seconds it wears off and I can move again.

Hi Caroline and welcome to the thread, don't think I've seen your post before, bit if you have then sorry - I blame it on baby brain!

Sorry to hear ladies you're getting SPD sounds horrible and although there are steps to help it, it would be nicer to not get it at all, we have enough to deal with whilst pg... For now main pains I get is when I am walking, get cramps so have to slow down and even then I think this is just how it's going to be. Really hope this SPD stays away!

Thanks BCS, will have to see what my mum's test results say, she doesn't live in the UK, so she really misses the NHS at times like this as it would be quicker.

I don't think my bump is all that big yet, certainly no-one is staring or giving up bus seats yet so am hoping Sweetpea will make more of an appearance in the next week or so. Mind you, hubby reckons I just can't tell, he thinks I am showing quite a bit and is worried what I'll be like later as this is just half way...
