My bump rises from just under my boobs - its like a shelf already! I can put a dinner plate on it when I am sitting down! Its slightly more above my belly button than below. Don't know how factual the theory is but it worked! I also did Bounty's gender predictor last night and that was also right!:rotfl:Go here and have a go! Bounty

Hehe! This is fun! Predicted a girl for me - we will see on the 19th of Feb! :)

Another vote for the Medela Swing here :)

Re: car seats, we used ours on the pushchair a lot, though mainly in the lie-flat mode. How much you use it is really going to depend on where you're going and how you're going to get there. We live in a small town and most of my mummy friends are in the nearby city, so I drove out to meet friends a lot. It's much easier to just clip the car seat onto the pushchair frame, rather than having to get the baby out of the seat and put them in the pushchair seat, particularly when they've fallen asleep in the car. This was one of the reasons we liked the seat we had, as even if it had been in the car in the upright mode, it was easy to recline flat once it was on the pushchair. It also then meant we didn't need to worry about how long DS had been in the car seat - when he was tiny he'd easily sleep for 4 hours mid-morning if we were out and about with him in the pushchair.

For shopping, most supermarkets have a few trollies with a moulded plastic seat suitable for babies. It'll put them in a similar position to being in a car seat. They are hard plastic though, so I always made sure I had a thick blanket to lay DS on in one of those seats. You can also get trollies that have a sort of platform at the front that you can place your car seat on - though if you're not very tall you won't be able to see over the car seat to see where you're going!

Mogwai, we had a Close Parent carrier when DS was tiny and it was fab :) I don't think ours was called a Caboo, but I've just googled it and it looks identical so maybe they've just renamed it. Only problem I had was there is no lumbar support and, as DS was quite a big baby, it wasn't long before my back couldn't cope with carrying him in it. I still have it though and will be using it when this one arrives.

We got a BabyBjorn after that, but to be honest I've read since that they aren't so good for babies as they suspend their weight from the crotch area and leave their legs dangling. It's better for babies to be in a "frog" position, supported under their bum and thighs with their legs bent (the Caboo does this). I quite fancy getting an Ergo Baby carrier this time, so will probably ebay the Baby Bjorn to put towards that.

Looks like there's going to be a lot of little girls popping out this summer if the Bounty predictor is right!

Wow, there have been a lot of posts today. Everyone must be having a snow day!

Thanks to everyone who's given good tips about pushchairs, breast pumps, socks etc. I have no idea about anything so it's really useful to hear other people's experiences.

I've got my scan on 4th Feb and we're not going to find out the flavour. I think we're having a boy, and OH thinks a girl. I've just done the Bounty predictor and it says girl if I put my current age in, or boy if I put the age I will be, so that's not very conclusive! Anyway, to update the list:

    Snozberry BBGP = Boy (correct)
    IHateDida BBGP = Girl (correct)
    *BigBird* BBGP = Girl (?)
    mrsj28 BBGP = Girl (?)
MV BBGP = Girl (? but willing to eat hat if it is!)
    mogwai BBGP = Boy (?)
    Lovecake = Girl (?)

Gizmodo - I thought it was just if you couldnt produce enough milk that babies didnt take to BFing?? Ive been reading Gina Fords book, contented baby (something like that), and she recommends getting a pump from the start as that way the babys dad can feed her at night too, and also if they don't take to the boob straight away you can still be feeding them breast milk??

I'm confused. So are you just intending to exclusively express then bottle feed breastmilk? If this is the case then I can see the use for an electric pump.

If you're plan is to breastfeed, but you want to aim for OH to be able to feed once a day out of a bottle then I would hold off buying an electric pump just because firstly it's not recommended to express and bottle feed until breastfeeding is established, so about 6 weeks. And secondly if you're only expressing one bottle a day then you might find a £10 manual is all you need. Like I said, I could express a bottle of milk in 5 minutes using a manual, and it's simple to clean/steralise etc, takes up less room.

In regards to travel system and being able to put car seat in push chair - I think most people are in agreement so far. I also agree it was brilliant for when nipping to the shops or doctors or baby groups...just so much easier. I'd definitely recommend it.

Car seats - heck they are expensive - I want one with an ISOfix thingy that comes with it - I had a look on the mamas and papas site and you ave to pay an extra £125 for the fitting! Thats without the car seat! OMG! Anyone recommend a decent (reasonably priced) one that comes with ISOfix?

I really wanted an isofix base for our cabriofix but was astounded at the price. We went for the easybase which is the same but not isofix at the back and belted in so seat clips in and out. When I researched this vs isofix I couldn't find any concrete evidence that the isofix was a lot more safer and we we don't do an awful lot of lengthy car journeys I didn't see the point in making the investment.

    Hope that helps :)

ETA: I managed to get the easy fix base for just over £70 when Kiddicare had it on offer.

Bit more fun - undecided on a name for your Bounty gender prediction?

Let them choose a name too! Go here

It suggested Eliana for me first go! I actually quite like it!:p
  • I didn't like the boy's name it came up with at all... and for a girl, it came up with a name my niece was nearly called. Definitely sticking with our own choices!
  • Oh my word im trying not to freak out with how little i know about prams, breast pumps and socks! Will have to get more organised after scan!
