Wow - thanks for that! I like the Mylo too - but I want to be able to try it so might pop out sometime in the next few weeks to try and see if it fits in both cars - one car has quite a small boot. It comes in lime green - yehey!:j

Car seats - heck they are expensive - I want one with an ISOfix thingy that comes with it - I had a look on the mamas and papas site and you ave to pay an extra £125 for the fitting! Thats without the car seat! OMG! Anyone recommend a decent (reasonably priced) one that comes with ISOfix?

Ok, if I'm allowed to keep my questions coming... (you are all going to regret being so nice to me soon):

    - How useful is the car seat/travel system combo? I don't really like the idea of a newborn being in a car seat for too long and would rather put them in a pram or lie-flat pushchair. I can walk to shops and friends' places locally, but will occasionally drive and then use the pushchair at the destination (I sound like a sat nav saying 'destination..). Would be interested to know how much people actually used the car seat as part of the travel system, i.e. pushing around the frame with the car seat on top (or however it works!!!).

Must get on and do some work. I work from home, which makes a snow day out of the question, how depressing!! It's far too interesting to come on hear and ask about socks.

I found the car seat/travel system really invaluable MrsJ. It is so much lighter to push on the pram base than the carrycot, and much easier to put on and off.

I used to use it quite a bit when we'd go shopping in the car, and as long as you aren't leaving LO in the car seat for hours at a time, there isn't any danger.

The hardest thing I've thought of is food shopping...baby and trolley. What are people's best way of dealing with this with a teeny one too small for the seated trolleys?

I am planning on a sling of sorts for this and making OH come with me to pack shopping!:D (and thank goodness for online shopping!)

We never had isofix, but we don't use a car often. I just belted it in. Depending on when you have your baby it may be do-able. If it's summer etc less chance of freezing cold weather (but it is this county after all ;) ) I think most Isofix bases are around the £100-£130 max and then car seat on top x

Don't buy a pump until you know you can BF. Or do what I did - get the cheap Tommee Tippee manual one (about £10 in the sales).

I never needed an electric one, my supply was so good it took me 5 minutes to manually pump a bottle. So really it's best to wait before spending any serious money.

Also, DD wouldn't take the bottle, and I can't donate milk, so all my expressed milk went in the bin and then I never bothered. :( The manual pump was still useful for taking the edge off occasionally and also for the rare occassions I went out...like I went to Sonisphere for the day and had to express milk in the portaloo to stop my boobs from exploding :)

Gizmodo - I thought it was just if you couldnt produce enough milk that babies didnt take to BFing?? Ive been reading Gina Fords book, contented baby (something like that), and she recommends getting a pump from the start as that way the babys dad can feed her at night too, and also if they don't take to the boob straight away you can still be feeding them breast milk??

Ive been looking at the medela swing pump as it has good reviews but waiting for a good sale

mrsj - I think this thread is busy today cos everyone is off on a snow day! :T

Sling - Close Parent - Caboo carrier (£60)

Pushchair - Uppababy Cruz (£337) Vista (£540) (fits maxi carseat) or Mama and Papas Sola (£295) or to fit car seat Maxi Cosi Streety or Loola Up (£255 - heavy, bulky)

Monitor - Philips Avent Deco DECT (£65)/Tommee Tippee Closer to nature (£65) or video monitor Luvion Grand Elite Digital Video (£160) or 7" version (£200) or Motorola MBP36 Digital Video (£125)

I'm still undecided on BF or not, pumps are just so expensive!

Did you see the deal on the electric pump on Amazon http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ameda-lactaline-personal-dual-electric-breastpump-amazon-49-99-1438960 - I bought one after reading the reviews as they are selling for around this second hand on Ebay! So takes the risk out of it for me.
  • ...another good thing about the car seat on the pram base is if you are in the car and baby has dozed off, you can take the seat out of the car without disturbing them.

Trying to take DS out of his car seat and into the carrycot would always wake him up and guarantee an angry little boy!

The Vista is an amazing pram Mogwai. Plus you can buy an extra seat to clip on, if you happened to have another in quick succession, so no need to buy a double pram. x

  • ...oh and I highly recommend the Medela Swing breast pump :D
