My big sister lives in Flint! She had her 3 at Countess of Chester as she said she didn't mind living in Wales, but she didn't want Welsh babies :o Completely pointless as they obviously went to Welsh schools, learned Welsh, and now they are grown up, all 3 consider themselves to be Welsh.

Haha - I am English and actually from down South but all 3 (soon to be 4) of my children have been born and bred in Wales! DH is welsh - so I am the odd one out !!! But consider this home now :)

 hello everybody :) I was hoping I could join you lovely ladies (and any gents?). I'm pregnant with my first, 13 + 4 today. Have loved chatting on the ttc thread and less than 12 weeks thread, and hope to carry on making 'online friends' for support and chat through the pregnancy (plus, I have at least a million questions that I need to ask you all....!).

I've had quite a lot of sickness, but not HG or anything like that, and the sickness does seem to be easing a bit, just feeling very nauseous and retching occasionally!

I've got my 16 week appointment next week, even though I'll only be 14 + 2 - when I went for my booking appointment, they dated me going by LMP, and the 16 week appointment would have fallen in the Christmas week, so the midwife booked it a week early. I was then put back another week at my scan. Is there any reason why this would be a problem? The midwife told me she'd listen to the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment - is 14 weeks to early to listen to it?

Ok, that's question one out of the way, I'll save the others for another day ;)

Look forward to getting to know some new names - I recognise some from the less than 12 weeks board :)

  • Hi mrsj28,

Welcome! I had my 16 week appointment a couple weeks early to and the midwife left it up to me to decide on whether to listen to the heart beat. Her reason being it was just a tad too early and due to having a bit of adipose(fat) in abdomin area thAt could affect hearing a result. She said if she couldn't hear it would mean a trip into the main hospital for a scan. I decided to wait for the next appointment to save any worry.

I suppose it will depend on your midwife though. Do what feels right for you if you get the choice.

Thanks, missty - that's really helpful. I think I would like her to try and listen in if possible as it would be nice to know everything is ok (even if it means a trip to the hospital, which I'd rather avoid!).

Hello mrsj28 - lovely to see you here! I am 23 weeks tomorrow so should really be graduating again soon, but will stay for a little while longer :D

It is quite early to hear baby at 14 weeks and I guess they don't want to worry you unnecessarily. The MW listened to mine at my 16 week appointment (actually my only appointment with her at all) and she managed to find the heartbeat. (Although I have a well covered belly too :D) and I saw my Consultant 3 days later and he asked if MW had tried and said yes, so he had a go. Unfortunately baby was hiding and after about 5 minutes of him sweating he did find the heartbeat again :) Seriously it will feel even longer for you if they can't find it!! :( Just keep an open mind if they do not find the heartbeat - baby is still very small at this time :)

As for the dating of pregnancies - I have never stayed anywhere near my date according to my LMP with any of my 4 babies. My scans have always put me around 2 weeks ahead! This time, I was originally due on the 30th April (by LMP), then the 25th (had a number of early scans due to HG and heavy bleeding) and by the time I had my dating scan I am now due the 13th April! :D They go by your LMP as an average for everyone - but we all know we can ovulate at different times so it is not spot on for everyone. So try not to worry about that either.

JT100 - £10!!!!! Blimey I would want a framed album for that price!!!!

Hope all the other ladies are well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Thanks chonorla!

I think I'll go with an open mind and see what the midwife suggests. I'm not worried about the dating - in fact I'm pleased because it means I ovulated exactly when I thought I did and the dates match up with what I'd always thought!

I'm quite slim and have list some weight through being sick so I wonder if that will make it any easier to hear the heartbeat. Hmm we'll see - am trying to stay relaxed :)

Unbelieveable isn't it ... it's not like it's an area where people have a tenner to spare either. I've had quite a few scans because of HG too. They have been concerned baby has not been growing as expected. The receptionist has stopped asked me if I would like a pic as I always say no!

(fiver for the car park as well if they are running late ... they usually are!)
