They're pretty useless at my hospital too, I think it's a common theme! She did listen to the heartbeat but it took ages to find as Beanie was wiggling about all over the place :rotfl: so when she found it it was only for about 5 seconds. When the MW did it at my 16 week appointment she let us listen for ages :)

I wasn't really asking for help with my diet, I think she misunderstood me! All i really wanted to know was if Beanie would get everything they need if I'm eating a varied diet but regularly falling a little bit short on calories. I have PLENTY of fat reserves for them to draw on and I don't want to force myself to eat more if they'll be ok if I don't. All I can find when searching online is that you shouldn't diet when pg etc, but I'm not trying to diet, just struggling to reach my maintenance target. I've been counting calories for about a year with a 1300/day target. I've now increased up to about 1700-2000/day, but the software I use reckons I need about 2300 to maintain my weight. Any thoughts anyone?

Babies are incredibly good at drawing what they need from their mother. When people talk about good maternal diets it's to ensure that you don't suffer, not the baby. You can successfully carry a baby and lose weight at the same time. In fact, the advice now is that dieting in pregnancy is a good thing (if you can afford to lose the weight, obv) because big, chunky babies have more problems with diabetes and whatnot in later life.

If you feel well on your current calorie intake, you can bet that your baby's feeling tip-top too.

LittleMoog - I've been told that they don't encourage you to diet and lose weight whilst pregnant but if your a little overweight to start with then it's ok. Apparently, although there's no real research, a baby acts a bit like a parasite and takes all the goodness it needs first and then leaves the mum with everything else. If your worried about nutrients you could look at getting a pregnancy supplement x

Thanks guys :) That was what I thought and wanted the obs consultant to confirm, you'd think it would be something she was familiar with given that it's a joint obs/endo clinic that normally deals with gest diabetes!
I'm already taking a multivitamin, and I am eating a normal balanced diet, with plenty of fruit/veg etc, just struggling to get up to the "right" calorie level with smaller portions due to reduced appetite. Will carry on as I am :)

Anyone experienced any bleeding throughout their pregnancy? I keep getting spotting started at 9 weeks, now I'm 15 weeks. It's now been much at all which I know is a old thing and various scans have shown no sign of bleeding in the uterus, they suspect it is from the cervix being sensitive so things like bowel movements, sex etc can bring on a bit of bleeding (none of mine have been related to those explanations though). Just wondered if anyone had experienced the unexplained bleeding/spotting and if it's something I should expect all the way through? it's turning me into a wreck :/ even though the scans have been positive.

If you go back a few pages to page 300 a few other people answered this for someone else I have copied and pasted my answer for you though:

Hiya! I bled lightly 3 times...

Once was around the time AF would be due so i thought I wasn't pg that month (so say at 4 weeks), once was about a fortnight later coupled with lots of pain on my left side and i went for an early scan a th the EPU and all was ok at 6.5 weeks and then i bled again at my booking appt (8ish weeks) around the time my second AF would have been due...

I haven't bled since (touch wood) and im now 17 weeks (tomorrow) and have had a healthy 12 weeks scan too.

How heavy is the bleeding? xxx

I think the consensus was that there are quite a few that experience some sort of bleeding. Some experience it all the way through their pregnancies however it is always best to get it checked out.

I did this time at about 9 weeks. I had a severe allergic reaction to something the week before so I was completely convinced the bean was no more. But it was fine - sometimes it's a throwback to when you would have had your period. Sometimes it's inexplicable. Let's face it there is all sorts of weirdness going on in the pregnant body...
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

My midwife, consultant and 2 doctors have all told me to not eat for two as it's only at the last trimester when baby is gaining approx 1/2 a lb a week that the extra calories are needed.

If you think about it, the majority of weight gain during pregnancy is water from the amniotic sac and the placenta then approx half a stone for the baby.

I know what you mean, but I thought our bodies have been spending more energy so I've been trying to eat a little more than usual. I haven't been eating for two, just trying to have an extra toast/toastie or a little more at dinner.

I can't have eaten that much as my belly is still pretty small and I've only put on about 8lbs since the beginning of the pregnancy, or should I say, since I found out I was pregnant!
bikelesschick - I'm suprised they moved your dates back. I thought that once you had your dating at the 12 week scan they stuck with it!

She said she normally didn't move dates unless they were more than 10 days apart but because they couldn't date me at the first scan, she had to. The date I've had so far was the one based on my last period and to be honest, being my first one, I don't think it'll arrive when due (14th of Oct) so it'll probably arrive around the time they're estimating (19th).

Last night baby woke me up with his kicks so I pressed against it very lightly only to be able to feel its heartbeat! I was so excited I had to wake DH up. He wasn't that impressed I'd woken him up till he could feel the heartbeat himself. So exciting!

    Hi Girls,

Hope everyone is feeling ok ?

I went Drs on Saturday about a few things, one being the aches i'm getting "downstairs", he said its fine and that i should start taking paracetamol regularly 1-2 every couple of hours which will stop the aching before it starts and obviously help me sleep better. I'm still quiet nervous about taking it all the time, i know it will help but has anyone else heard this?

One tablet I hope! If you took 2 every couple of hours you'd soon exceed the maximum daily dose
