Thanks for the Aldi link Taadaa - some great prices on baby things there. I don't normally shop at Aldi, as there isn't one locally to me, but there is one close to where I'm working tomorrow so will go and have a look. With the Boots changing bag, I was under the impression that you get one for free when you join, but I've just had a magazine through from them that says you get it free when you buy some nappies. I already have 2 packs of Huggies newborn nappies, and from what I've read, they aren't that good, so I'm loath to buy any more. The Mum and Baby pack at Sainsbugs doesn't look that brilliant anyway to be honest - it contained a small shower cream, some washing powder, Huggies wipes (also heard they're not brill), and I think that was about it; again, you have to buy some Huggies newborn nappies to get it too.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    hi all,

i'm not really introduced myself since moving over from 12week board.

Im currently 17+5 weeks after having a mc in November, i'm also got a little girl whos 4.

this is a little bit of a stress post, so sorry

Having major stress at the min, advised by her nursery today that there is a case of slapped cheek syndrome at her nursery and any pregnant women should contact their doctors. I checked with my mum and i havent had it, which mean i could get it. My little girl picks up everything from nursery and i'm dreading her getting it and passing it on to me. I stupidly read up about it on the internet and found comments from people who has lost their baby at 19weeks + or gone on to had a baby but something was wrong. I went to the docs today and they basically said they cant do anything unless me or my little girl get it. I'm just panicking so much.

Also having panic about having 2 children, my little girl is so good, but recently she is getting a right attitude and will basically not listen to me, i'm stressing out and spent most of sunday in tears cause i'm thinking if i cant cope with 1 child how am i going to manage with 2. :(

snowy there is a blood test that they can do to find out if you have immunity to the virus to put your mind at rest. It may be worth asking about that. It does take a couple of weeks to process though, and there isn't a lot they can do if you do contract the virus other than monitor you more regularly. Luckily my blood test came back saying I had immunity, despite my Mum not thinking I'd had it (it's quite common for children not to develop the red cheeks symptom, in which case, it just looks like a bad cold or virus, so it's possible you have been in contact without realising it). Is your LO aware of the new baby? Maybe she is acting out because of this.

Snowzy, most adults have been exposed to it in their younger life and just not had the red rosy cheeks that are a main symptom, it can just manifest as a cold or flu.

I've been exposed to it recently and had the blood test at the doctors. I don't have immunity to it. I have to have regular blood tests now and possible scans depending on any changes in results.

Don't worry yourself too much though, I got myself in a frightful mess over it all. The type of parvo that normally causes stillbirths is normally caused by dogs not slapped cheek. It's not known to cause birth defects it can cause anaemia in the baby but they can treat that.

Seriously as someone going through it it's better to avoid google and upsetting yourself. The calmer you stay the better for the baby and you x

The doctors were pretty useless they knew how worried I was but say they won't test unless either of us have symptoms. I knew I shouldn't have googled it

My lo does know and appears happy, although she only wants a girl, I've told her it might be a boy and she wasn't happy. Im trying to involve her in things like picking names and she is coming to the 20 weeks scan. I could be that, my oh says I let her get away with stuff, which is why she doesn't listen to me, but I don't feel like I do, I feel like I'm constantly telling her off

Hope everyone is well and enjoying your second trimesters!

Ive got my 20 week scan on Mon 21st May. Does anyone know if I need a full bladder for it? I've not had any info through this time.

Also has anyone booked their ante-netal classes yet? And have you gone NHS or private?

moneypuddle, I don't have to have a full bladder at my appointments but I don't need to for any of the scans including the less than 12 weeks ones.

I went to antenatal classes last time so don't think I will bother. Having given birth 6 months ago not sure what more they could add :D

I went to the NHS one and it was ok but very medical, I really didn't want to know about the different levels of tearing was quite happy to be in denial (I didn't tear at all anyway)

moneypuddle when I asked the sonographer at my 12 week scan about the full bladder for the next scan, she said it wasn't necessary. I actually ended up going to the loo before my scan as they were running late, and it didn't seem to be a problem. I think it's cos the baby has move up higher by that point. I've just booked to go to NCT antenatal classes, but they are fairly pricey (they do provide a discount for those on benefits or low incomes - combined income of less than £26160 I think). It's a 16 week course in my case, and runs mostly in the evenings (the NHS ones here seem to run in the daytime on a Saturday when my DH works, and only seem to be a couple of sessions long).
