How can the size of your bump mean anything? I watch OBEM and you see some whoppers on there, plus some teeny little ones. I'm getting really freaked about the size of mine. I've only had it charted once (at 27 wks) and it was 10th percentile, i.e. quite little. Now I keep thinking my baby's not growing properly. But then I think how on earth can you tell just from the bump size? Am I worrying unnecessarily? :(

I'll join you on the worrying front as i'm still tiny. All I know is that 1st time mums generally are smaller as things stretch slower. 2nd+ are already baggy LOL ;-) So grow faster. If she is a little lady when born and not growing well then she will make up for it after with much breast milk LOL. I'm not going to worry if she is well she will catch up later.

I am bigger now that I was 1st time round. Last time I was tiny and at 6 months I had people saying how small I was, when I told them they were twins they looked shocked.

Size really doesn't matter ;) If your midwife is worried they will monitor you more and let you know, if s/he isn't worried then I wouldn't worry.

well my bump is huge already and clearly visable at 17 weeks, BUT thats a whole lot of extra padding Ive collected over the years as Ive always had a low podgy belly I could normally disguise it with good clothes and posture, now baby fills that space so its all pushed up making bump look way bigger than it actually is !

when midwife measures you she digs about at your hair line (the one down bottom not top ;)) and then measures upwards to the top of the uterus, on someone with no belly fat it will be the top of the visable bump, for me it will be about half way up :o but everyone (in theory) should have the same measurements for dates but just carry it differently

    Hiya Ladies,

I hope that you all had a good Easter. We had a lovely time.

I have been lurking but not chipped in recently because I haven't had anything to say really.

Baby is really active now - I have even seen kicks from the outside! It's amazing!

Got my 24 week GP check up appointment tomorrow at 23+5 - I can't wait to hear the heartbeat again. I can't believe how far I am along! I'm just constantly amazed by my body.

I'm pretty pleased because I have only put on 11lbs - I am actually fitter now than before the pregnancy - I have gotten myself swimming 1k twice a week and walking for at least 30 mins every day whereas pre pregnancy I was doing nothing.

My local council gym does pregnancy pilates on a sunday morning but it is £7.50 per class and then you have to pay for parking on top of that. It seems pretty expensive to me.
What kind of exercise are the rest of you guys doing? Are any of you doing pilates? Is it worth the money in your opinion?

    Take care ladies
    xxxx Mrs E

Mrs Excited - great to hear you are managing exercise better now than before pregnancy.

i am swimming 50 lengths once a week (used to be twice before pregnancy but dont have the energy now)
    and walk 40 mins , 2 -3 times a week

i have put on 17lbs though which worries me slightly

measurement around my belly about 1cm below my belly button is 108cm - which has increased by 14cm since before pregnancy

    24+1 today

I think i am going to struggle to wean myself off this thread cos i know people here :)

  • Hello, don't know if I have posted on here before as I have been away since my scan. I am cycling 7 miles a day to and from the station and doing pilates once a week. I would definitely recommend pilates, it is good for core muscles and also breathing which allegedly helps in labour. Cycling is a very personal and controversial thing due to the risk of falling, or more accurately being hit, but I know my route and have weighed up the risks.

As for bump size it is my new worry. I am short and slim so thought it would be obvious straight after 12 weeks but at 15 + 3 not at all! My stomach is more rounded and hard but still can wear all my normal clothes, including a shirt I only noticed today is a size 6. I am sure I will be massive and complaining by the end so trying to make the most of it at the moment, although I think people assume I am making it up!

Hey Jedi! - I'll be coming up to join you on Friday although I'm not really sure why this thread only goes up to 24 weeks? Maybe it should go up to 27 weeks and then you graduate to the next one when you are in the third trimester? Anyway whatever. It is what it is and it's very exciting to pass all the little milestones that pop up during pregnancy so graduating to the big girls thread a little earlier than on all the other websites is a nice bonus!

Maternity sections are pretty much non existent in shops. WHenever you ask an assistant they say "you can order it online" but I want to try it on!! grrr!
Last year there was a nice maternity section in the New Look in High Wycombe - last week i went to find some leggings and the section has gone! boo! I did find a mat section in Debenhams in Uxbridge though and the H&M there also has a mat section. Dunno if this helps anyone - I'm not sure if any of you guys are near Uxbridge.

Hey Candycane - thanks for replying - I'm impressed by your cycling. I am too scared to cycle on the road - even pre pregnancy!
I don't think you should worry about your bump size - you will pop out soon. All of us are different and carry the baby in different ways.

I think the reason I am doing more exercise now is because I have a definite goal - that is to be as fit as I can for labour and the aftermath. I need to have good stamina if I am to push the little one out! Also I was exercising a fair bit before I had my 2 early miscarriages last year but after that I was too depressed to want to take care of myself and really let things go. Now I'm back on the wagon with a goal in my sights there's no stopping me!
