  • Sorry to drop in unannounced...I norrmally lurk...

I had a consultant appointment at about 15-16wks and it was honestly the most useless appointment I've had so far :-p It was a routine one for High BMI and my consultant was Dr Um

    "Um....so.....Um.....How are you?"

    "and um......you're.....um pregnant.....15 weeks?"

    "you're um....um......ok?"

"ok I'll see you at um 34 wks.....um....."

He had a midwife with him who did the pee and took my blood pressure.

Sounds like Lucy's was on information overload as none of those scary things were mentioned so its probably best to see them as routine until they flap about and say otherwise :-) I Have to have GTT as a routine precaution and at some point an appointment about pain relief. If possible just look on it as just bonus health checks so they can spot anything untowards quicker and not as a voice of doooooooooooooooooooooooooom.

Also be prepared for some well phrased sentences on the paperwork... my 20 wk scan paperwork says "difficult scan due to patient build".....charming....I've somehow stayed the same weight throughout this pregnancy so thought I was doing quite well :-p

btw - phunkles puts it very well :-)

Hi back from consultant. If anything i've come away more worried:( All the talk of diabetes, high blood pressure, pre eclamsia, blood clots etc(my BMI is 33),has made me really scared:(
They also said because I am overweight the midwife may not be able to feel for baby's size so may need an extra scan at 34/36 weeks.

Also because of the arthritis,if I have it in my back or neck,I may not be able to have an epidural:(

They dont need to see me again unless midwife refers me again, which is good I guess......:(

It's just talk and nothing else, things can happen but most can be controlled, and who's to say anything will happen? remember me a week or so ago freaked about protein in urine, this week it's back to normal.

I'm trying to use the mindset no point fretting if it hasn't happened as it prob wont xxxxx

And if they don't need to see u unless referred back well that's a good sign, the extra scan see it as a bonus! another chance to see baby again, i have another at 28 and 34 weeks, dif reasons to urs but I know like urs it's just precautionary, also i'm a zillion percent they have seen higher bmi's than yours and most of those ladies have been fine, it's all just them erring on the side of caution xxxxx

    fancy a choc hobnob? xxxxx

Toniq - just being nosey but the protein in the water? Did your midwife/doctor say anything about it? I got told on Weds I had protein in my water but nothing else just protein and then she scared me half to death asking had I bled was I bleeding.
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together

Hi Lucy - I went yesterday and my BMI is 44, so much higher than yours. I too was booked in for GTT test at 28 weeks, and an extra scan at 36 weeks.

I just look at it like I am getting more attention than most and any problems will be spotted quickly.

I eat well, have lost 2 stone in the last 18 weeks and am still losing weight at 12 + 3 weeks, although not from dieting, just eating healthily. My blood pressure has been brill each time I have been and no probs with blood tests, I even got a pat on the back from my last urine sample because it was "evident" I wasn't eating rubbish.

Just look after yourself and eat well, and things should be fine and you get to see more of bump than most x x x

Mine said I was a bit early for Pre eclampsia so it was prob a urine infection or a contaminated specimen container, she rechecked it a week later and it was fine so she said no need to worry, she said it is likely to have been (tmi time) discharge contaminating the sample as i'm at the stage xx hope u r ok xxxx

I might be wrong but am sure it stands for Glucose Tolerance.

I can't have anything to eat or drink other than water from 9pm the night before, then appointment is 9am in the morning, they take a blood sample, then you drink a bottle of lucozade over a 2 hour period and then have another blood test.

After that mine will feed you as they have been mean and starved you!

I think results come back in 2 days.

    Shouldn't be too bad I don't think! x
