Just been discussing with hubby, and looking on the net, apparently 'high risk' is anything 1:300 or greater, so if that's the case then there would be a 0.3% chance of the baby having downs and a 99.7% chance that they don't. I'll see how it goes tomorrow but i'm not going to stress too much.

ecoelle, it could be all number of reasons. they may not of got a clear enough reading and want to just double check.

with my ds1 i had a reading come back 1 in 200 thats was considered a low result then ( things have changed now). i was offered amnio but the risk with tho are far to high for me. we knew at end of day we were gonna love baby no matter what so it didn't matter.

so what i did was become pro-active. i found other mums in area with downs children, i met up with a midwife who had a downs child,i found support groups in my area. i learnt as much as i could so when baby was born if there was any problem i knew i was very well prepared. son was born fine. but even if he hadn't of been. it wouldn't of changed anything. he was our son and we love him with all our heart and that will never change.
  • DL - I want my 20 week scan date :( I won't find out the date until my 16 week appt (which is actually nearer to 17 weeks so hope they can get me in pretty quickly coz I'm going away at 20 +6 for a week and I really want it before I go away. Grrr!!!

    Hi all,

ecoelle hope everything is going ok today, do let us know when you can, I know it can be worrying but fingers crossed all will be well for you both. I am convinced these 9 months are set to try us, to get us ready for being in worrying mode 100% of the time!

Apricot she sounds like she's either jealous or just really cold hearted to ignore your request like that and be so awkward overall. Just count down the days now as you won't have to work with her for long! I am jealous of your maternity wear, it's having the time to go out and see stuff really.

jcr that was a very proactive and positive way to look at things, I must admit I don't know how I would cope if it came to that, we always wanted to know the risk and it gets harder as time goes on, especially if something came up.
I was born premature at the 24 week stage, very tiny at just under 1kg (2 pounds I think), but I made it, so I am always aware of that. I am 18 weeks now and this means that in 6 weeks I would have been born, which I find incredible. It makes the morals of any hard decisions even tougher but fingers crossed little Sweetpea is fine in there but I do think about it alot.

Claireloo hope you hear something soon, it can be frustrating to wait! Are you off somewhere nice?

Hi girlies, I'm quickly sneaking on whilst at work!

I got given the scan date at my last scan. I don't see the midwife at the hospital where the scans are done so I guess they run things separately.

    Thinking of ecolle.

  • Meet too re: sneaking on - bad as I need to get a financial report sorted, but just looking at it makes me think sod it, a few minutes won't matter given that this report will take days!

thankyou sparkle. but i had to be pro-active. i had a little girl of 14m and i knew if my little boys had downs it would effect all of family, no nessearily in a bad way. but i thought if were fully aware of everything we can enjoy the first few precious weeks with our little one instead of panicing.

also i thought yes i got a result of 1 in 200, but the result could of been i in 19000 ( like the result this time) it still doesn't mean baby doesn't have downs. it means out of 19000 1 child is likely to have it and there is no reason to say why my 1 baby won't be the 1.

doesn't mena part of me still didn't worry, but keeping busy mean i didn't have chance to think about anything negative.

i declined the downs blood test, purely for the reason that i will love this baby no matter what and there didnt seem any point in having it then.
as my mum always says "Whats for you will not go by you"

Evening ladies. I've just had a phonecall from the hospital to say they want to see me tomorrow to discuss the results of the NT screening. I'm guessing this isn't good. Anyone else been called back and any advice as to what they may want to tell us, or what questions we might need to ask? Thanks in advance.

    Hi ecoelle

Did your NT screening consist of a scan for nuchal measurement and a blood test or was it just bloods that were taken?
