BigZ my mum and her sisters all had their first babies at 34 weeks ish and my niece was 37 weeks exactly.

I've had several words with Little Miss and she's been told quite firmly that she's a 2014 baby and to not even think of coming in 2013. if we get to full term she'll get extra presents lol x

They were 3 for 2, so not as expensive are they normally are! And they did have patterned/ footless/ coloured! I think there was a dark red in store might be more online.

squirrel said you can get them in h&m too, might be more reasonably priced.

I brought Mothercare maternity tights (3 pairs) on recommendation and after wearing one pair I returned the other 2 pairs as they were so uncomfortable. I brought some more in HM and they are amazing I have them on today and so comfortable. For my job i have to be fairly smart so dresses and tights mainly I might even go back to HM as it get colder and get some thicker tights these are 40 denier, but they had 80,100, 200 and patterned, colours for price it was 2 pairs for £7 which I thought was fairly reasonable (when I had paid £12 per pair from mothercare )

(I never thought I would be so interested in tights) :p

VICSH Im the same, need to be smart in the office. Im planning on wearing lots of stretchy roomy dresses with tights though this pregnancy. The boots tights are comfy, but i've not much of a bump yet, so remains to be seem how comfy they'll be come 30 weeks!!
Will have to have a look at h&m online.

So, after the list chat at the weekend I think I've got our list of essentials down, and then the nice to haves.
Bought the first "proper" baby item today, a second hand moses basket off ebay. £20 including the stand, so really pleased with that.

I'm another one who needs to be smart so I have to get a load more maternity dresses for work. My SIL is shocked at how many clothes I 'claim to need' as she just bought some extra big leggings and a few oversized tunics to live in whilst pregnant... but she wore a uniform to work and was quite happy slobbing around every weekend. Not so easy for me! :o

I'm definitely checking out the H&M site tonight. :) I'm currently waiting for an ASOS order to be delivered, I know I ordered a dress for OH's birthday party on Saturday (the big 3-0!) but can't remember what else I bought (baby brain!) so it'll be a surprise when I open the parcel! :o

I think one of my next purchases is going to have to be a jacket or coat though! Threw my trusty mac on today and realised when I went out at lunchtime and I was a little chilly that I can't do up the buttons! :o I'm not one of those people who can happily go around with my coat undone if it's cold, I'm never warm enough for that! :p

I've also just realised that I'm now heavier than my OH. :( Granted, he's a sickeningly fit slim-bod with no excess fat so it's not *that* bad... but still depressing! :(

I can give you an opinion from when I had DD1 if it would help?

Don't get too many clothes until you know how big your baby is. Mine was 7lb 3oz, so 'newborn'. My SIL has just had a baby at 5lb something, so 'tiny baby'... and a lady in my postnatal group had a 10lb baby

We bought a multipack of vests and sleepsuits in newborn size, and my OH popped out to the local Tescos to buy more once we knew the size!

Blankets - we didn't have enough. Smallish ones are v helpful to wrap baby in in hospital. They do have some, but if your baby possets a lot (like mine did), it wasn't always easy to find a midwife to get a clean one, so good to have some of our own. I think 3 was a good number for us.

Sheets - we got away with two, but we washed one as soon as it got messy so we always had a spare. Plus I used a couple to swaddle my LO so we had those as spares too if really needed.

my DD2 was 10 lb straight into 0-3 months
Just take each day as it comes. :)

The difference in size between my baby and my friend's at the postnatal group was quite remarkable.

Had you been given any idea that DD2 was going to be a larger baby?

  • Got my nuchal test results back today. Low risk so reassuring. I know there's always a chance but feel better hearing that. Midwife appt went well, was disappointed didn't get to hear heart beat. Bit too early I imagine as should have been 16 week appt but am only 14+5.
I'm getting those stretchy type pains too (well they're not really pains, just more discomfort!) but feel better that its not just me!

After recommending those H&M tights I really must go and get some for myself, everything starting to get tight! X

I wouldn't have thought that is was too early squirrel, we heard the heart beat at our 12 week scan.
Good news on the nuchal result. Awaiting ours, still a couple of weeks till my 16 week appt.

It can be too early. I had 2 midwives unable to find a heartbeat at my 14 and 16 week appointments and they said that it's very common. Some districts don't even try this early incase it worries mums to be.

I'm pleased to say that my symptoms are improving however I'm at the end of my tether with my indigestion. Every few days I get in for a solid 48 hours, with a terrible pressure in my throat and I regurgitate mouthfuls of my last meal for hours, and nothing helps. I feel guilty but I'm going to beg for medication from the GP tomorrow.

We're hoping to let out our flat and buy a house near my family before Christmas, so we haven't bought any baby stuff yet. I have got a couple of bargain maternity clothes bundles on eBay which I can't wait to receive. I was looking in the shops which dissapointingly don't have a large selection, however I liked the colourful collection of maternity wear in Red Herring.

That's interesting to know Knythia because I'm already worrying about my 16 week appt as I know thy listen to it here, so will be massively worried if she can't find it, as she offered to listen to it when I booked in at 9 weeks so I just assumed at 16 you'd be able to.

I heard it at my private scan at 9 weeks but I thought the ultra sound was somehow more sensitive? you dont hear it at the 12 week one here.
