Has your wife spoken to the midwife about it? I would probably have the amnio if it was me but it's a personal choice of course.0

So sorry you have this hard decision BaileyB. Its a very personal decision whether to get the next set of tests to not and then to decide what to do.
Downs children can go to mainstream nursery but you tend to be more picky choosing one as you want a supportive environment (my friend has a Downs child)
Maybe some research would help? [URL="http://www.downs-syndrome.org.uk/information/for-familiescarers.html[/URL]
Remember you don't have to tell us or anyone else what you decide.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

BaileyB what a horrible dilemma. My friend is expecting a baby with Down's syndrome in a few weeks. She had a 1/4 chance and had the amniocentesis which carries a 0.5-1% risk as you say. CVS can be carried out earlier on in the pregnancy but has a slightly higher risk (around 1%). She has also had to have extra scans during the pregnancy to check for complications associated with Down's, such as heart defects, cleft palate etc. She has a nearly 3 year old and has been put in touch with a few charities such as Home Start to offer support in the early days as well as given extensive counselling: she says the support she's received from the NHS is second to none. She had several weeks weighing things up and her family decided to continue with the pregnancy; it is such a personal decision however.
I do hope things work out for you and your family, whatever you decide.0 -
Sorry to hear of your tough decision Bailey.
Had my 16 week appointment today & heard the heartbeat for the first time. Was so lovely.First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -
Thanks for the support everyone, means alot.
I would like a yes or no, but i don't think my wife wants the needle. I don't think we will abort the baby what ever the outcome is but i think i just need to know. It will stress me out for the next 5 months otherwise.
Can they tell if it has downs without the needle further on, or will the skin cell test the only way to go?0 -
I believe from googling and scaring myself that there are some abnormalities that could be picked up at 20 week scan that would indicate a chromosomal abnormality.
However, it wouldn't be obvious which chromosome problem it is and baby could be physically developing fine and still have DS.
I wouldn't wish the decisions you have to make on anyone. Is it possible, if you have time, to have some sort of counselling? It may help for you to discuss your views in a safe, non judgemental spaceLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Hi all
baby will be sleeping in our room at first...its just DH, he is abit clueless and as someone said....he can go on the sofa!!!!!!!! :rotfl:
BaileyB - sorry to hear your dilemma. Personally I wouldn't have further tests, I would accept it and carry on as normal, life isn't perfect and things are here to try us. hope you and your wife can come to a joint decision.
I have a midwife appointment tomorrow....cant wait to leave work at 3pm...it went so busy this afternoon I was glad to leave at 5, come home for a rest!
Well its day 1 of my mums holiday (with my dad) on a cruise round the med and she has already phoned to make sure I am ok! I hope I don't get a phone call every day! told dad to hide his mobile (mum left hers at home) and that she can only phone every 3-4 days unless I text first! She is so worried something may happen when they are away that a couple of weeks ago she wanted to cancel the cruise till I told her that we are probably going to go away for a week next week (not now but never mind. ) so she might as well go too to relax. Mothers!! :rotfl:

If you wouldn't have an abortion then in my opinion I would never have an amnio because if a miscarriage happened I'd never forgive myself.
I think there are new private tests you can get which are non invasive but they cost around £700.
Downs doesn't scare me as I know two people with it. So that probably makes me biased. But I just couldn't risk an amnio.0 -
Birdie sounds like a very eventful day for you! Hope you're all rested up now.
I spent this morning puking then went to work.
