Was supposed to have a midwife appointment today, but DH forgot to arrange to go in late to work so it's been rearranged for 2 wks time. I'm not bothered, as I'm 23+6 and it's scheduled as a 25 wk appointment, so still "on time" - but then I feel vaguely guilty that I'm so blase about everything still...??
We've been given loads of stuff for MiniZee. I bought some muslins myself, in a sale, and a pack of nappies to get the boots changing bag, but aside from that we've already been given loads of clothes/baby bath/walker/baby swing/clothes and had our travel system bought for us. Cot is going to be borrowed from sister, just need a mattress and sheets. Parents want to buy "fun" stuff so I think they're getting the moses basket/play gym... I think my biggest expense will have been my maternity clothes at this rate, and mum even bought me some of those!
I'm excited, V day tomorrow

Just popping in to see what people are up to
Oh my gosh some of these lists are absurdly long!!
I downloaded a white noise app- it was free on my android, DH had the same one on his iPhone. It was a bit of God send for the first few months.
I got a few dummies, but DD1 just looked at me in disgust after sucking on them for a bit and nothing came out!! She has a lovely yummy thumb which she prefers, not sure how we are going to stop her doing that when she is older, but at the moment she only uses it when she is really tired and once she is asleep it pops out so not too worried.
I didn't get any bottles apart from one which was a free gift from Avent and 2 that came with my breast pump to store milk. I managed to bf for almost 14 mths and only needed bottles when MIL baby sat and when I went back to work. I wouldn't bother getting them just in case as like some people have mentioned they can be very picky and not like any of the bottles you've bought.
Mrs Bunny baby should definitely be in with you, we moved DD1 when she was 5 mths as she was sleeping through the night anyway and I think we were disturbing her when we snored/rolled over etc.

I'm going down to my parents this weekend so I can collect loads of stuff from my sister. She has boxes of it all in the roofspace at my parents house. I think I'm going to come back with car loads. Although I've just moved some of the baby things we already have here from around the house into the nursery and there's quite a pile building up. All of it has been free so far apart from 1 babygro and the sheep nightlight.
We're going to buy the pushchair brand new, and cot & mattress. Pushchair is going to be brand new only because we want it to last for 2 children. Also we've done a lot of research about which one we want to go for as it needs to tick different boxes. The one we want doesn't have a very big shopping basket, which my sister is in shock about as is convinced you should spend ALL your free time shopping. I told her I'd just wear a rucksack as that's what I'd do normally and she was abhorred lol.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

I know this is a MSE forum (& so I could get shot down), but if you want to work down the list & get everything remember it is your choice to do so.
Totally agree in that babies need very little, but as others have pointed out you can get loads of stuff cheaply/ free/ as gifts.
Don't get into debt for the sake of a swanky cot or pram, but enjoy shopping for baby stuff!
It does make me wonder though when I'm out & see people who (I perceive) are on benefits/ low income yet they are pushing a Bugaboo or Stokke. I pricematched/ e bayed to get my pram for the best price & didn't consider the obscenely (IMO) priced options. But that's no different than many other choices we all make as consumers. I just need to make sure I buy at the best price.
I don't like it when others are buying gifts & I think they have paid over the odds - I'm :money:for everyone!0 -
TTC40 - There's lots of pram buying fb pages these days, you can get a full bugaboo system for like £200 and seemingly some women go through prams like there's no tomorrow!
I'm going to use the 'new baby list' as it's nice and simple that was posted a couple of pages ago to make sure i've got the essentails but tbh i'm going to buy over and above whatever i want, no matter how useless it may be lol I've spent a long, hard time dreaming of shopping for my baby and have built up a little pot for that purpose and nothing is going to stop me from enjoying it
I've already bought her something 'non practical' - asda have some lovely minnie mouse outfits so i got her a 2 top set and 2 legging set in 0-3 months even though everyone says at that age 'they just live in babygros'. they were far too cute to resistLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

*gulp* the one we want is the S1lver cr0ss surf All terrain, it's about £600    but OH and I both have really good jobs and will be debt free before baby comes along. I think I've priced up what we actually need to buy, car seat is about £200, mattress £20, reusable nappies £200 and baby will cost us under £1000. We've also got NCT classes we're paying for and a hypnobirthing course that wasn't cheap but I paid for that with my bonus. I know it's a lot of money, but the 2nd baby won't cost us anything as we'll have it all. I do feel guilty about spending so much though, but on the otherhand I'm really pleased I'm not being swept up in the buy, buy, buy that my sister is. Her boys have about 7 BIG boxes of plastic toys.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Completely agree with this I think the point I was trying to make was people shouldnt feel less adequate or under financial pressure if they don't have everything on 'the list' or have to buy second hand. Equally bump will be around a long time and there are lots of spoiling opportunities for the next...well forever :T0 -

oh definitely, each to their own and according to budget
I've bought a moses basket second hand after seeing how much they are and the stands! and will probably be given a lot of clothes from my sister as she was given a lot when my niece was born and let's face it, all the do is throw up and poop on them anyway. no respect for fancy stuff these babies lol
tell you what is fun though...we've got a wedding at the beginning of April so i get to look at pretty little dresses for hernot a second thought to what i might wear for it, but i've got about five options for her, they're just too cute! lol
