Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday :j 22 January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

I'm on the sofa again! UH snoring just gets worse. So managed to clear off the safa and have snuggled in amongst the sawdust with my duvet. Didn't make it to costco yesterday due to traffic so went to makro instead, Loads of bargains, but spent much more than I needed to. Still it will do us until Easter! Today (now that the builders have done the floor) i'm cleaning and then putting the furniture back where it should be before my family arrive later today for a belated christmas!! :eek:

I invited them cos they are family and I love them, but right now I'm looking around at a truely filthy house, with everything topsy turvy and questionning my sanity. as I'm yawming I'm off back to sleep - hopefully a magical fairy will come and do it all for me.

You listening fairy???? :rotfl:
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning.

The fairy does not exist! You will have to do it yourself. Sorry to burst your dreams.. Oh and santa does not come on 22 Jan, so you will have to do the gift bit yourself on that too...:rotfl:

What a horrible thing to say to start the day......

Day off for me. Might go to PZ for a visit. Cold out there -4 but should be a nice sunny day.
We had fish and chips last night as a treat, but when I went to the chippy it was on fire ! I had to go to another one, who when they saw the fire engines, got more chips on expecting extra trade!
I hope its not too bad as the chippy on fire is the best in the country in my opinion...
DD had her shift cancelled in MC D's so she is seething. Apparently they are dead quiet at the moment as no one is spending. From what i saw at the other chippy, and various shops that is true...

Well, hope everyone has a nice day..

Chilly & overcast here today, still, no rushing around as it's Saturday so we can have a lazy start, hubby wants to go to the garden center & I need to wash the kitchen floor & do the washing, what an exciting life we lead. Still yesterday was exciting enough for me, one child told me to F*** Off repeatedly & another one pushed me over, I radioed for back up & the deputy head wouldn't help when she realised who it was as 'I should have been more polite to them' I had said 'Sorry boys you can't come through this door it's for year 7's'. I should have said 'Sorry gentlemen you can't come through this door it's for year 7's', like that would have made any difference. They are in year 9 so have known for over 2 years they aren't allowed in!
So I'm looking forward to 2 days of pottering around the house, finishing one of the cot blankets & starting another. I'm babysitting for 2 of the fosterchildren this evening, lots of cuddles with the baby & I shall play peep boo, with the toddler, it's the only contact he will have with me so putting him to bed should be fun, lets hope he's come round to me before bed time. If not I'll let him fall asleep where he's playing & carry him up afterwards.
    Have a good day everyone
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning everyone,
Glad its the weekend. Got lots of tidying, washing and cleaning to do today. Made Rogan with leftover gravy & pork from last Sunday's lunch - kept in freezer. The rogan was delish:)
Got steak for those that eat it for dinner today and chicken for those that don't. Peppercorn sauce, wedges and veggies (yet to buy).
It is still freezing here so not really gardening weather.
Hester I don't know how you put up with some of the attitudes you meet at work - children and adults. Hope you are unhurt.
Hugs to those who need or want, Silver x

    Morning

Got my new sofa delivered yesterday - catalgue buy as it was in te sale....its a wannabe 3 seater (ie its more like a 2!) but since we cut the old one up and took it to the tip it will half to do!
With the help of DS2 I got all the walls and skirting washed down so the room looks much brighter - will put the blinds thru the wash this evening.
Need to meal plan and do a very frugal shop again but first i need coffee, toast and make soup and a packed lunch for DH and then i need to sort the kitchen as i dumped loads of stuff on the kitchen table when i sorted the living room.
Hope the meet goes well today

  • Morning all,
Not posted for a couple of weeks but had to post a reply to Tired mum. It's really hard to get on a social work course- my daughter's a first year. She applied for 5 different uni's, 2 turned her down straight away, another rang her to try to make her change her course and 2 asked her in for interviews. Of the 2 that interviewed her, one offered her a place depending on grades and the other which was her favourite offered her a place on a different course. She ended up with just one choice on her ucas form so she was under real pressure to pass her A level's, but she did and got better than what she hoped for. She's now loving uni life. She's only 18 and certain uni's will only want mature students- a lot of her course are mature but there are some young un's on it. Tell your daughter to keep her chin up and i hope she gets a place somewhere.
Anyway back to today- shepherds pie for dinner today, and most of the day will be taken with dropping OH at work, picking up DS2 and shopping.
Hope the meet goes well for those attending

    Good morning
Have a great day, all meeting in Birmingham.

I'm up early today, taking DS4 uptown to sell his nintendo ds games at a stall there, and to look at Poundland, before the Saturday rush.
Then I'm hoping to get down to the allotment to see how it is, haven't been down for quite a few weeks. I've got some bits to drop off into the shed.

Got paid yesterday, it's been a very frugal and difficult couple of weeks, so looking forward to stocking up again. I just need to be careful not to overbuy. Will look on supermarket comparison to get the best bargains before I go.

    Have a great Saturday.
