ill just add this is the only time they checked a till the night b4 they dont normally, nor did they in the five days till they suspended me just seems strange the manager did it that night and never again
So the evening count of the till doesn't usually happen?
And even after you found a shortage it wasn't done any following nights?
Doesn't the company you work for have their own HR dept?
I work for a high st retailer ( a different one to this one) and we have an amazing HR dept that really looks after employees in this instance. They make sure all the correct procedures are followed as it's so easy for a manager to make mistakes in procedures in instances like this. Especially if they are not experienced in dealing with disciplinary situations.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

The accusation is theft of money between the manager counting all the money going into the till & the OP counting the money at 7.30am the next day.
I realised after I'd posted:cool:

Firstly.
The employer does not legally need to prove theft; they simply have to have reasonable grounds to suspect that the OP is responsible for theft or whatever is accused. This doesnt mean they can just go money is missing and your sacked; it does mean however if after an investigation they find that no one else accessed the till and that the OP is the only one who could have done it they could sack. Likewise if they investigated and concluded it must have been the OP or the manager they could sack both. There is legal precedent for this.
In my view the OP's only real avenues here are under appeal
1) Too many people had access to it to be her - Was it just you and the manager or could everyone else have been in and out?
2) That she hasnt been treated fairly (i.e why hasnt the manager been sacked)
Its hard to say much more as the OP seems quite vague. We really need to know the full details of what happened at the end of her shift from the moment she did her last transaction to the moment she left with the till. What happened to the till between end of shift and the last person leaving the bulding, overnight, between the first person arriving and her arriving, and finally between her arriving and notifying the management of the fest.
What is vital here is not the OP's innocence as this cant be proven but the fact others could be guilty.
Could you also confirm the discliplinary process you were subject too so we can see if it was compliant.
Oh and if concerned works in a CAB I'd stay away as legally most of their advice is wrong.0 -

Yes but based on what you say; Who verified the balance when you left? or when the manager left or at any point between?
It could have been missing all along and the manager miscounted or someone else was away with it.
The jump in till balances seems to suggest this could be right.
If others had access to the till and the managers count isnt verified I dont think any appeal could be unsucessful tbh unless they want to turn round and sack the lot of you.0 -

You should get free solicitor representation so speak to them on Monday and they should sort the tribunal for you or certainly advice on it. But now, pretty much the same as the reps at my hubbys old place of work.0
