Car noise has upset someone

I bet you're loads of fun...0 -

A potato rammed up the exhaust with a broom handle will sort it.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
buy a 1300 classic beetle. show him real noise. those thing can rattle windows loose with no mods on them.0

i had similar with my old car althogh i suspect it was probably marginally louder than the mini.
it was a 2004 subaru impreza modified with Front mount,CAIC,straight through 3" stainless system with 4.5" tailpipe, uprated turbo and injectors and remapped with ECUTEK running 349bhp and from memory 300ish lbft of torque.to me it gave a deep flat four burble to my neighbours it was just a noise early in morning and late at night due to working shifts.
in your position i would do nothing due to anonymous note if they grow some and come and talk like a normal person the address the issue.this is what i did a neighbour came to tell me they thought it was too loud so i got a tail pipe insert made to reduce noise.0 -

Why would you de-ice before starting the car? It takes longer to clear the inside than the outside on older cars so you'll still be sad with the engine idling for just as long.0 -

Whilst that may be true for old cars I was referring to the bloke across the road who wouldn't have had that issue with his more modern car. At no point in that post did I tell OP to de-ice the car before they started the engine, I was stating what my neighbour did.
As for ice inside, I find it removes just fine with a squirt of de-icer on a microfibre cloth, negating the need to sit with the engine running for ten minutes.0 -
What would you do? Try and find out who it is? Post a generic apology letter outlining the situation on our front door?0

Exactly my thoughts.0 -

2) Start the car the next morning and make as much noise as possible, just to show that "normally" your not making a lot of noise.
Hopefully the anonymous note writer will come out and speak to you.
The problem with loud cars is that people automatically assume your doing it deliberately OR driving too fast!
I have a Westfield kitcar, it's f**king loud, it's coughs and pops from the carbs when it's cold and spits flames when really hot. I once got a load of verbal abuse from a guy walking his dog, I was doing 30 in a 30 zone and he's shouting "SLOW DOWN YOU IDIOT!!!!!".... So I stopped and pointed out I wasn't speeding and that noise does not equate to speed, he wouldn't listen (arrogant old tw4t), so I got back in my car I opened up the throttle at the road side and showed him how loud it really was.... He walked off looking rather red faced.
That is actually the worst possible advice that anyone could give, Antagonise the situation ?? Please don't.
Look, even a noisy car can be stared quietly. I don't know if the op gave details of if the car is garaged or not but, if it is there should be no issue with a modicom of commonsence fron the owner. And if it isn't, it's still not a lost cause. I too had a "racause car", it would start as quietly as any other.
Again Strider, alienating folks against specialist cars such as Westfields etc, isn't such a good idea, take care.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
