Car noise has upset someone

  • Minis were never fitted at the factory with a 1380CC engine - the car has been modified. What other modifications have been made to the car, particualrly the exhaust? If a non-OEM exhaust has neen fitted, is it CE marked?

I'd ignore them, you can't keep everyone happy all the time. If that's all they have to upset them in life then they are doing well.

If they don't like the sound of traffic perhaps they should move out of the town.

You can get a twin-box RC40 system which will keep the noise down on a 1380 engine. Had one on mine, and it made a deeper noise at tickover speeds, but wasn't noisy until you wound the revs up a bit. The LCB manifold he's probably fitted won't help either. The RC40 is a good design and won't strangle the engine's breathing on a bored-out motor.
Motorcycle exhaust baffles may fit , but "Minis have weenie tailpipes" only applies to those with standard exhausts. With a 1380, It'd need fairly free-flowing exhaust.

    What an ignorant comment.

I had a neighbour complain about my noise we came to an agreement that he park on my drive and i park on his as his was on a slope i could roll down it and out of the close then start my engine. which was a nice fair end to the problem. I always turn it off before i enter the close as well and roll in keeps everyone happy that way

it was very loud and he did have every right to complain to be honest it was a group a rally exhaust and 45 throttle bodies

What has CE marking got to do with it?
There's BSAU 193a marking for aftermarket exhausts, but that's just for motorcycles an mopeds.

There is a van that parks opposite our house that is generally started at about 5.45am and left to idle for ten minutes before being driven off. I can't say I appreciate it but I don't think there's much I can do.

I agree the OP should keep the letter just in case. I received something similar at my previous house. We painted our double garage door purple and received an anonymous note complaining that it 'spoiled the entire close' and 'made it look like Moss Side'. I took great delight in telling all my neighbours that I didn't really like the colour and had been about to change it before the note appeared but now I was going to keep it.:rotfl:

And I'm sure you'd say the same thing if someone woke you up at 6am every morning, right?
  • my mini was only a 1310 or something like that and it wasnt so much loud but very very deep

it would rattle stuff in the house but you couldnt really hear it as such just the noise that ornaments and pictures would make as they shook

i have had other noisy cars as well my vauxhall chevette was a bit savage

Yes you can - complain to the police about this anti-social car use - the offender can be issued with a Section 59 notice for ant-social car use - two of them in 12 months and the car is impounded.
