You are aware that with Wireless G the channels overlap? There are only 3 channels that don't overlap: {1,6 and 11} so using 13 won't actually put you into a 'clear' channel as such - in fact it puts the edge of your channel right in the middle of ch 11.

  • Talktalk rep, there is no way of changing the channel in that bit you told me to try. I have looked, I can see the channel, I am channel 1 along with 5 or 6 others, although it actually says channel 1 + 5 on the inSIDDer thing.

    How do I change it?

Also I am connected by the privacy setting RSNA-CCMP.

    Thanks
  • I figured out how to change the channel, made no odds, changed it to channel 6 but it said about 4 others were on it, so I changed to 13, no one else is on it, although it says I am channel 13 + 9, not sure what the +9 is about.

But the connection still keeps dropping out.

And if you don't use the wireless, and put a cable in it like the TalkTalk rep has asked you to do, what happens?
  • Doesnt drop out, but I only had it plugged in for about 10 minutes. Its upstairs and is in an awkward place so cant spent too long sat infront of it connected to it.

Also the internet connection drops out randomly when not connected. Not at specific times, so its hard to replicate.

    Well, I've got to be cruel to be kind and be blunt with you;
Unless you *can* recreate it on a wired connection it's really not going to be an issue for TalkTalk to deal with.

The 'it did not do it on the older router' means nothing. With wireless the situation can change in moments. Neighbours can change equipment, channels, buy items like illicit video senders/transmitters/baby alarms and generally cause interfere with the 2.4ghz band. You can't possibly know if any of this has changed for sure.

If I were you I'd get a nice long Ethernet lead and hook it up on a temporary basis and see if the problem continues. You basically need to 'prove' this is not an issue with your WI-FI or equipment for any broadband provider to either care or help you with this.

Also the internet connection drops out randomly when not connected. Not at specific times, so its hard to replicate.
Just to be clear and so we are on the same page, how are you arriving at this conclusion?
  • I know that its randomly as it can happen as soon as I log in, 5 minutes after that, 20 seconds after that,30 minutes after that etc etc.

The icon of 4 white bars in the bottom right hand corner of my screen is normally on, when it loses connection a small gold padlock icon appears in the centre of these bars. The connection drops. Whilst assessing the router when this happens the power, adsl and internet light all stay on, the wlan flashes. When the internet is working the power, adsl are constantly on and the internet and wlan light flash.

You say it doesnt matter what the old router did, but I find it hard to believe that I have over a year of perfect service, then bang as soon as a new router is used problems occur.

    .

I'm not convinced you have any issue with the broadband itself, just the wireless dropping.

Really, if you leave it with a wired connection for a few days does it 'disconnect' ? Until you can answer that you can't really hope to diagnose this.

If you believe it's the router you have the option to buy something you like and swap out the Huawei. You don't *have* to use it. It could be the Huawei just has a rubbish radio in it period.
