Talktalk Broadband keeps disconnecting.....

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to this.

I have my broadband through TalkTalk, recently my Siemens Gigaset router stopped working so TalkTalk sent me a new one which is a TalkTalk Huawei HG521. I have been using this for about a week and now every now and then the internet connection drops.

The power and ADSL lights are constantly on and the internet and WLAN lights usually flash.

However when observing the router when the connection drops nothing seems to change, well saying that the internet light seems to stay on and the WLAN continues to flash.

The connection usually resumes after a few seconds to a few minutes but it is very annoying.

TalkTalk "engineers" are supposed to be calling me tonight, just wondered if anyone else has had this problem or knows how to overcome it.

Thanks guys.

  • It is wireless.
  • Initially I'd try a wired connection as it may be channel interference from neighbouring wifi hotspots.

It may also be TalkTalk line checking to determine the maximum speed, which may have been egged on due to your previous router failure.
  • I was with tiscali/talk/talk up until a couple of months ago and like many others suffered many many disconnections I tried everything to solve it but to no avail, finally moved to BT and have had no disconnections what so ever. Go to the tiscali/talk/talk forums to see what I mean about many disconnections.
  • Thanks, well if the engineers cant sort it today then I will be switching. I cant have the connection keep being lost. Sometimes it is as much 6 or 7 times in an hour.

I will go to BT, they are already cheaper by £5 per month anyway.

I've always been happy with our Tiscali broadband. However I dislike their email service, because of the SPAM. Last time I checked, you had to PAY for spam protection..! :rotfl: Some time ago now, I started collecting my tiscali email using a free email provider with good spam filtering. Much better. I just let the spam in my tiscali inbox build up, though I could bear it no longer a while back and deleted it all. It's building up again though!

For that reason, I'd like to move to another provider, and periodically check if o2 LLU is in my area yet. I don't even know if the great deal they had is still on, but one day I'll change it..

Anyway, I'm a bit off topic, sorry. I just wanted to explain why I'd like to move providers after I said I was happy with the broadband..

Another reason is that since the change to TalkTalk.. no, that's not fair.. For the last few days or so, our connection seems sluggish. Certain sites take ages to load. I do use OpenDNS, so maybe it's their fault and not TalkTalk's.. don't know.. I'll check it out if it continues.

Well, I'll stop rambling now. Good luck with it Dantheman. Hope you get it sorted one way or another. They're not the cheapest, so you'd expect a good service. (I know they're not the most expensive either. Still.. ;) )

Are you able to lend me some assistance? Apparantly I am being called tonight between 7 and 9pm. I am guessing from India.

    Hi,

With you saying wireless, I would "like the other members" advise to try a wired connection as the issue you have posted about could be as a result of the wireless.

    Let us know it using a wired connection makes any difference, also if you email me your details i will check things from our side;

  • But I dont want to have to constantly have my laptop wired into the router to be able to use your service. I have not experienced this problem before.

If thats what I am going to have to do I would rather not use Talktalk

    Hi,

I am not asking you to connect wired and stay that way, this is a simple diagnostic check to try and identify the root cause of your issue.

If this is an issue with wireless then it will have nothing to do with who your ISP is, if you are getting interference from other equipment your going to see the same with any ISP...

That said it could be that the router is faulty, it could be that we just need to change the wireless channel however if you dont test a wired connection it will be impossible for us to move forward.

Please also note that this will be the very first thing you are asked to do when you get called tonight.
