  • Can't without the old one, but see my post re Inssider, there may be a neighbour who uses the same channel, also check that your WPA/WEP key is correct for the new router.

Where is the WPA/WEP key located?
  • I have installed it now, run it, looking at it.....have no idea what I am looking at and how I can check if other people are using the same channel and if they are how i would even change the channel (if at all possible)?

Click on the channel header will sort them in number order, check if yours is shared by others . Mr TT looks like he will let you how to change them. The RSSI indicator shows the relevant strength of the channel too mine is -50 which is fair, less than -50 eg -40 then its great, if -60,-80,-90 then the signal is weaker.

    Hi.

If you follow the below steps you should be able to see that and the wireless channel

    1. Open your web brower and enter http://192.168.1.1 Or just click the link here
    2. Enter admin for the username and password, click ok
    3. Click on "Advanced", then ok
    4. Click "Basic" then "WLAN"

The wireless channel is the 3rd option from the top listed as "Channel" i think the default is "7" the wifi password and encryption type are further down the page. If you wish to change any of these you simply change the required field and click "Submit".

    Any questions just ask.

    Regards
    Stephen

  • I am at work at the moment, so I will check it when I get home. If my channel is shared then I just use the above directions to change it?

Thats correct, change it to a channel not used by anyone else, the tool you are using should help you identify that, in the event that you dont pick up any other wifi signals just change the channel anyway as it could be interference from something else.

Thanks to you and debitcardmayhem for your help.

I will try this tonight and see if it helps.

Also I will await a call from your colleagues.

Can you see that a call is scheduled?
  • When changing the channel, don't use the lappy via wireless, cos changing the channel will drop you, use the ethernet cable to do it.
Just trying to help you from (not) getting frustrated ;)
