Generally speaking this mean's you should never need to indicate to change lanes to the left. This comes from the IAM.... But lets not dwell on that because no matter what agency or group I mention, it'll just get debunked because it doesn't agree with arrogant opinions of certain forum users.
On regular roads, damn right I won't indicate.... And if that annoys someone because they didn't get chance to try and stop me, then so be it. Im considering my safety and the safety of drivers in any oncoming vehicle..... The person im overtaking is generally only concerned about their own ego.
I don't "stealth overtake" because I forget to indicate, I do it as an active decision for road safety.

The driver that is so above himself that he only need indicate when he deems it necessary!0 -

Had a guy trying the old bit stealth bumming the other day.
Result? He just looked a knob, and on the 4th attempt, between my horn, my handsignals and the car coming out of the dip he had failed to see that he would have hit head on (at over 60), he decided not to overtake after all.
The exact same spot where a few years ago a 15 year old boy died and the driver responsible got 3 years.
Your not annoying anyone, you've just got all this in your head and it affects your driving (the old lady you side swiped?).
That and the mums on the school run in their 4x4's.0 -
Personally think the germans have the right idea with their autobahns, thats what this country needs..
Obviously this would not be a good idea if you have 70 bhp car that struggles to reach 80 mph, but for the petrol heads out there it would be fantastic.0 -

What? :rotfl:
The objective of stealth overtaking is the driver ahead should be totally unaware of your intent to do so until it's far too late.
Your description suggests tailgating? This is bad in three ways....
Firstly it alerts the driver and you can fully expect to see that tell-tale small puff of smoke as he/she down shifts ready to race you.
Secondly it makes it harder to see the road ahead.
Finally it leaves no space to accelerate just prior to pulling out.
Idiots tailgate.scotsman4th wrote: »Result? He just looked a knob, and on the 4th attempt, between my horn, my handsignals and the car coming out of the dip he had failed to see that he would have hit head on (at over 60), he decided not to overtake after all.
4th attempt? I don't "attempt", I do.... Attempts only server to alert the driver of your intentions, which then makes life much more difficult. And I repeat, the objective of stealth overtaking is the driver ahead should be totally unaware of your intent to do so until it's far too late.
I've never had a problem with a stealth overtake, but I had plenty of people race or swerve at me before I employed this technique.
We shouldn't have to do this, but too many people drive on their ego's and have this mentality that everyone should wait behind them. Women unfortunately are the worst for this, because they'll try to race you whatever they're driving... Where as men tend not to pick fights with faster vehicles, but will drive a lot more aggressively when they do.scotsman4th wrote: »Your not annoying anyone, you've just got all this in your head and it affects your driving (the old lady you side swiped?).
The old lady that tried to force her way between a queue and a line of parked cars..... On the assumption that we we're all illegally parked.scotsman4th wrote: »That and the mums on the school run in their 4x4's.
Not sure what your talking about, they bother me less than people who do the weekly shop in the petrol station while cars are queuing a mile down the road for petrol.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Correct, however you are hardly the best example of a safe driver to call any other driver an idiot.0 -
The very concept of "stealth overtaking" you espouse is to perform a manouvre without indicating your intentions. That is shockingly bad driving, and sooner or later you will cause a serious accident.
If others are driving badly and are blocking your overtaking moves, that should tell you that they are bad drivers, and you should keep well away.0 -

I'm noticing a very low opinion of overtaking in general.....
Since when has this been a crime? If others are driving badly and are blocking your overtaking moves, that should tell you that they are bad drivers, and you should keep well away.
Are you suggesting a "trial run" to see how they react first? :rotfl:
If im on a 30 miles long twisty NSL road with very few overtaking spots, the last thing I want to do is alert the slow driver to the fact I intend to overtake..... Because what follows is often slow driving until a clear road appears and then they accelerate to make sure you can't get past.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
