    You seem to have missed this bit;

signal when it is safe to do so

No MUST or MUST NOT's, im afraid Simon does not say and therefore I don't need to do.

Hmmm.....here's an intersting point for him:
    • take extra care at night and in poor visibility when it is harder to judge speed and distance
    • give way to oncoming vehicles before passing parked vehicles or other obstructions on your side of the road
    • only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right, and there is room to do so
    • stay in your lane if traffic is moving slowly in queues. If the queue on your right is moving more slowly than you are, you may pass on the left
    • give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car (see Rules 211-215)
Remember: Mirrors – Signal – Manoeuvre

    ;)
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

The most fuel efficient way to drive is not too brake!

Absolutely correct, think about it...energy used in getting car up to speed lost as heat through breaking. Read the road ahead, leave appropriate gaps, anticipate needing to slow down and do so by taking foot off accelerator. I frequently drive 25 miles on a motorway between 2 cities without breaking except on leaving (and even then not required every day)....and yes this can be at peak times as well.

And before anybody asks I've never hit anybody's rear end......(of car or otherwise).

(Even Jeremy Clarkson advised this approach the other day on Top Gear).

And what is the most likely cause of having to break.....lorries pulling out into middle lane to overtake slower vehicles in inside lane........

I think using the wall ahead, as a means of stopping, would be an unwise startegy. :)

So you admit to ignoring the Highway Code advice to suit your argument then.

    Says it all really.

Of course a driver that does not follow the good advice given in the HC that is involved in an accident could be deemed to be to blame.

That will never have crossed your mind.;)

I think the most efficient speed is 60, but you should remember if you drive too slow that can be dangerous to, also you don't speed up when you go past a national speed limit sign on your driving test you fail.

The great thing with the highway code is it's full of MUST and MUST NOT's
Andeven SHOULD NOT, which is very different to MUST NOT

But oddly enough not in the section about overtaking.

    Safely and courteously?

I don't tailgate and I only overtake when it's safe to do so.....

Your argument makes no sense.... Unless your simply suggesting that nobody should ever overtake?

Last response to you, since you seem to think you are the only one who knows how to drive.

Overtaking in such a way that other road users do not know that you are about to perform a potentially dangerous manouvre is extremely foolish. You will, sooner or later, come across someone else as bloody-minded as you. Oh, I forgot - you did, we saw the video. Next time you may not have an easy escape.

It's me and Mr Slow...... Who needs to know im overtaking? was he planning to do a snake manoeuvre across the road to warm his tyre's up? Will he think "oh better not weave about he's about to overtake!"

The driver ahead does not need to know im going to overtake. Simple!
Indicating can do only one thing and that is to make him/her turn competitive (if they are that way inclined). The only thing they need to see is my tail lights as I pass.... It's much safer that way and far less likely to insight road rage than if I allow them to get into a race.

Urban driving is a different story altogether and on the rare occasion where the limit is not 30, your normally on a dual carriageway.
I don't think i've ever had to overtake in town or on residential roads.

I put it to you non-believers that you are in fact the type who try to stop people overtaking AND that stealth overtaking annoys you because you don't get chance to carry out your one man vigilante campaign against people who wish to make reasonable and legal progress on UK roads!
