Well, i've just spend an hour or so reading through this thread and most people dont seem to like the regs board nor go there and no matter how much you tell people it's not as bad as they think, in the end it's their choice if they should go there or not and why should they all of a sudden be punnished (ie, not see comps that were previously on the main board and now whisked away to regs) for not wanting to do something, I don't see this as being fair at all but thats my opinion and as for if I use the board at all, yes I do, I go on there and have done for the past few years and I still find it as confusing as hell on there as there seem to be so many dead links on there all over the place so I dont like it personally but some people do and they shouldn't be punnished either by having their board moved away.

My suggestion would be for any comp WITH AN END DATE to be posted on the main forum and linked to the daily/weekly/monthly stickies as relevant to them. Where they have different answers/links each day (thinking Company & sugarscape mainly here) there's no worry about them being bumped as it is for a new competition each time mostly. The ones that have a lot of chatter on them seem to be where there are set times and dates to enter (thinking warburtons and Big Snap comps here) and no-one has ever complained about these being bumped with the chatter anyway, or did I miss those posts? Those that dont have end dates would remain on the regs board as thats what they are regular comps. Surely this would satisfy everyone? There are enough of us that enter as posted to link up to the reg stickies any that haven't been by the OP and I remember someone posted on here about missing dailies (sorry, I've read too much to remember everything) if the person doing that thread now went on holiday, well, if we all post on the end of the thread the links intead of PMing them to her that would solve the issue as you'd only need to look at the last few posts since you last looked to know you had them all.

So my suggestion for the poll would be:

Would you like to have all comps with an end date posted on the main forum?

    Yes
    No

Sorry if i've made it too simple but I think the solution is to keep everyone happy even if we dont all get everything we want :)

    Happy Comping all

could this be a compromise (bear with me it's only an idea and could be tweaked to suit most people)

    main board
    all usual single entry comps
all monthly comps that can be posted with an end date, new thread to be posted each month

    regulars board
all the ongoing monthlies (no end date), the type where you need to register or sign up for an email and get entered into a monthly draw

    etc (cut due to length)
I've posted here but if I should move it to the Discussion thread so this thread is more concise I will happily do so, just PM me :)

My main feedback would be that I think this could result in quite a bit of duping while people try to get in first each week/month. And like I think you mentioned there would likely be some missed.

Just a possible solution for this: Perhaps the monthly sticky could be a monthly/weekly sticky just so the top post can be monthlies with no fixed end date, the next a list of monthlies that require reposting each month and the next a list of weeklies that require reposting each week? They don't have to all be done by the same person if that would be too big a workload as long as there is some communicating when setting the sticky up so that the relevant people can be sure they get the first few posts on the sticky??

To the people saying this isn't an ideal compromise, it is exactly what Glad says it is, a compromise. It is very unlikely ANYTHING will totally suit anyone so it's the middle ground we could all meet on ;)
There are suggestions on there that I would rather see not happen (or at least not happen until the other suggestions had been given a fair chance and rationally argued for and against). But I would accept it just so that peace can return on here and we can get back on with what we are all here for, entering comps

Oh, and no everyone wasn't happy with the board as it was before. As I said in my post here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=40314808&postcount=477).

PS I've only scan read the messages posted since last night. A lot of what I've said may already have been covered but I am limited on time as it's my lunch break. For the same reason if any of what I'm said directly offends anyone, nothing is targeted at one particular individual, it's all general replies to various comments. xxx

If I'm not able to update the thread for some days due to holiday or anything I'm going to turn my PM's off so that the only way to add them is to post to the end of the thread! :D

I have just gone to the regulars board and entered a few comps from nuts etc and as I hadn't ticked them I hadn't entered them before, does this mean they were not on the main board, or moved to regulars quickly. I alway enter the nuts ones and simular ones, but somehow missed these?
Thanks to all who post comps :)

Sorry I should have just split the quote, but I wanted to reply to this bit too.

The problem with saying that is that people give the ongoing comps an end date, so therefore they get posted on the main board and then get game overed and then posted again when they've gone to game over even though they are ongoing, I'm thinking of things like Watches Shop (when that reopens I'm going to get the old post bought back to the regulars as 'E: DAILY Win a watch with Watches Shop') and Trippin Nomad here (they get posted seperately with end dates, but they don't have end dates because they finish when they've all been won?)

I know keeping it simple has been mentioned, the simplest way is anything that can be entered more than once is a regular??

    I agree with Diva's idea
I also agree with Purplecatlovers's definition of a regular
and I also like Munchkims suggestion of all comps with and end date on the main board.

I think looking at these 3 suggestions we could make something really simple and workable.
  • I have just read through this thread from the beginning and cant understand why the problem arose in the first place. I do use the regulars when I have time as do everyone else but if all the comps from the dailys etc were on the main board every day it would be Huge.
Iknow I dont speak up very often but can someone explain why it was changed. It seems that the majority of people liked it the way it was??? How many complained ??? Who to ???
I do think there should be a poll and no I am not taking over by discussing I am genuinly wondering about these questions. I do read the comps discussions sometimes I just dont post very often in there.
For what its worth I would prefer it to be the way it was I found it simple enough and if I did then I cant understand why anyone thinks its difficult. I am not very savvy !!!
  • oops sorry I forgot to say that everyone that posts the comps and the people that help on the threads and the BG's are great. I would not be able to keep up with it. So thanks to all of you and I cant wait to see the outcome.
