I know you said you have managed to get sorted now but i would definately look at the milk and more website to see if they deliver. You can get your milk and bread (plus lots of other things, cereal etc) delivered and you dont have to pay up front. Ive been getting my deliveries for 3 weeks now and havnt had my first invoice yet...its due on the 20th...It would tide you over untill you get access to your money again...they also do fruit n veg too0

I was just coming onto this thread to say the exact same thing! :T There is an offer on there too that gives £10 off your first order, I think it runs out on 31st Jan.
Here is the link to the offer:

I've just had a look on the watchdog website, and spotted an article about Santander. It would seem that they are the MOST complained about bank.
If this is the first time this has happened to you, as in, Santander can't twist the facts around and make you out to be an idiot, maybe consider contacting Watchdog yourself? I would imagine that a story about family with a small child and a baby, being left without money for over two weeks, having to rely on the kindness of strangers and having their child benefit intercepted would catch their attention?
I hope you're managing ok, it sounds like a lot of wonderful people on here are helping youPaying off CC in 2011 £2100/£1692

Hi Lauren
Don't panic hun. Take/email this right of appropriation letter to your bank - follow up with a phone call and log everything. Tell them that you will need to access your account for your child benefit, and that it is YOUR right, they cannot withhold benefits especially when you need to feed your children and that if they disregard then you will report them to the ombudsman. See below for notes and a standard letter - change the letter to suit. Good Luck and remember - this is your RIGHT xxx
There is a process called the "Right of Appropriation" - this allows you to assign funds entering your account to specific events and needs. This is for ANY funds, not just benefits...
Some banks do not understand this process since it is not very often used. You might need to explain it when handing in the letter.
1) Ideally, you should give the bank 7 days notice. If they are aware, they could disregard the request.

Here also is the legislation that can be quoted if the benefits that fall within this act apply to you.

RIGHT OF APPROPRIATION
Dear Sir/Madam,
ACCOUNT NUMBER: xxxxxxxxx
I am writing to inform you that I am due to have a Child Benefit payment of £xxx paid into my account on xx/xx/xx, and I wish to use my first right of appropriation for this money, for the following purposes;
Rent £xx

I will withdraw the money on the day that it is deposited for the above use, and I would be grateful if you would ensure that any other payments out of my account do not interfere with this withdrawal.

Damn banks, I want to go down there for you and give them a piece of my mind,
I think a lot of us feel the same Lauren - maybe we should reschedule the next meet for your branch? Perhaps not since we might be accused of starting a riot:rotfl:
I would second what someone else (sorry don't remember who:o) said about Watchdog - also the local paper could be interested in stories like this one too. If nothing else it will persuade more people to leave Santander - maybe they will start to get the message then:mad:
Hope you managed to contact the CB today and get the benefit paid somewhere else anyway.
Best Wishes

Well done for the letter Mrs Skint. Lauren, I would do this anyway no matter what help you've had, you'll need a wee bit of cash for emergencies and fuel for the car.xxIt's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I have just read through this thread and lots of different emotions kicked in from good to bad. Thank heavens for MSE'rs.
May I make a suggestion?
Write down all the efforts that you made in asking for help from official sources - the bank, benefits office, employers and so on, and make an appointment with your local MP and let them know. As someone has already mentioned, this should not happen in our country. Had in not been for MSE you and your children would have literally gone without for weeks. That is not acceptable.
I know you have an enormous amount to deal with but if you can find the time I think it would be beneficial. A dreadful thing for you to have to endure.
Hugs

Hi Lauren
I hope everything's ok and your situation's improving.
It's lovely that people on the forum have rallied round but please remember anyone can say anything on the forum. We just need to gently remind you that, while we're not questioning Lauren's genuine need in any way, it's entirely possible someone can post on the forum saying something that's not true and if you give someone your personal details or sending them things you're giving them to a complete stranger so please be very careful.
Thanks!

Dear Lauren, i've just seen your message and my heart goes out to you. I hope that you have had the matter sorted out by now. your local church will be very glad to help and they usually have a good network of people with all sorts of skills who willl be able to help you sort out the bank, etc.. Try your local Advisory bureau to see if they can help. As you have children, you will be a priority and the bank should be doing everything to help you. I'm in pretty strained circumstances myself so understand how hard it is. Stir frys and soups are pretty good at stretching limited ingredients to feed many. I use a stock cube to make the soup base and add whatever veg or small amount of cooked meat i have into the pot and pretty it up with herbs and spices. Add the cooked noodles or a handful of cooked pasta to make a more substantial meal. I know you probably don't want to ask but I'm sure your neighbours and friends and loved ones would be only too glad to chip in to help. I hope that things resolve soon.0
