You're very welcome newleaf. I promote it whenever I can ! It's a project started by Elizabeth inn and they do not charge charities to be on their site. They also have a benefits checker on there.

As I said I work for an occupational benevolent fund, we have money to give out purely based on someone's employment history but I have no advertising budget as my Trustees feel everything they spend on advertising is money they can't give to someone in need so it's up to me to come up with free ways to promote our work :D

I`ve used this site- it`s ELizabeth Finn - and I applied for a friend who got help but they do have to be from a professional background and they have very strict criteria as to who is eligible which was quite surprising. There is a list on the site which tells you which careers are eligible.

Thanks Jan - I'm obviously not typing very well tonight ;)

You do not have to be from a professional background - funds on there, amongst others, include The Bakers Benevolent Fund, The Commercial Travellers Benevolent Institution (for sales reps, manufacturers agents, merchandisers), The Timber Trades Benevolent Fund, Caravan (for anyone in the grocery trade from warehouse to shop floor), Licensed Trades for those from pub trade, Retail Trust for shopworkers and many many others. Every fund has it's own rules (mine for example requires an applicant or their spouse - and an applicant can be a widow - to have worked in the industry for a minimum of 5, not necessarily consecutive, years at any time in their career). There are obviously funds for professional people as well.

As for those based on location, the most unusual I have come across helps Scots who live within a 25 mile radius of Charing Cross :D

I just don't want to put anyone off by thinking that because they are not from a professional background.

    Hi Lauren
I am so sorry to hear about your situation. The only offer of support I can provide is with a great big food hamper if you want it? I have so much food left from xmas, I am pregnant and everything is making me sick I have loads of cereals, tins, ingredients etc I could send up to you and I can cover postage

I know this sounds a bit charity and I don't want to make you feel bad but let me know if you want anything

    Hi everyone,

I havent been back to the thread for a few days as everything has just been mental!

I've had a rocky few days MH wise, but it has caused the "professionals" to do something and I now have my own social worker, well I should do in the next few weeks.

The section 21, we've been advised on by the council and just told to sit tight for now, i've signed a form of some sort to allow the case worker to deal with the letting agent etc and between the GP, HV & SS we are hoping to get a council place somewhere in the city so I can be nearer to the crisis centre & better facilities for MH. It's not ideal but I dont think I could cope with going private again and having to move in 12 months.

We have worked out that OH can take a break at the end of May work wise and stay home for a few months to support me which is good as I think this will be around about the time we move once the baliffs get their court order.

I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who offered me help, advice and friendship these last few weeks, If I hadnt of posted here I honestly don't know what I would of done.

A special thank-you to those who's kindness has enabled me to feed the girls and my OH to get to work, pay day is just around the corner and we can feel the stress easing even more as it gets closer! & a thank-you to who pointed me towards the Trussell Trust foodbank scheme, although I was not able to use them in this instance, I will be begining to volunteer with them in the Summer & will pay everyone's kindness forward to help those in need.

    xx

I have just read this thread from beginning to end and it has brought tears to my eyes. A few years ago I was in a very similar situation. I remember not eating for 2 days so that I could feed my little girl. I can remember a particular power supply company sending me demand letters because I owed them £144 (turned out, when it all got sorted out that they in fact owed me £44!!) and they made my life miserable. I was getting sheriff officers letters because I couldn't afford to pay my council tax. I was a single parent and I lived in a horrible run down council house in a horrible area. I was ready to go bankrupt as I didn't have two pennies to rub together. That was my LBM. Although I am in a much better position now, I wish that I had had the support that has been given on this thread back then. Everyone has been amazing here and I just want to thank you all for the kindness and support you have shown to Lauren and for reminding me that there are people out there willing to help.
