In the hope that the last frost has passed, I have planted out 4 runner beans. Two competition, two standard. I've kept one of each for spares, just in case, and I have more seed of both.
I've stuck a couple of sunflowers in the border, too.
I've obtained some pieces of comfrey root, which have been planted at the back between the shed and the greenhouse. I've added oregano to my herb collection.
Things look to be growing reasonably well, although a few things have had slightly disappointing germination rates. Nothing I can't replace though, I don't think.
Either the greenfly are having a very good look at the shed's new paintwork, or they're trying to eat it:
So far so good, I think.
Edit: Nice photography, MBE. :wall:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I finally managed to pot of my tomatoes, cucumbers, BNS, peppers, chillis, and courgettes. :j
Hopefully they will all make it
My radishes are not bulbing up. Its the first time I have grown them, and they are in a trough (everything I have is in pots, except my rhubarb:)), so I have no idea what is wrong with them
My spinach is looking good, as are my carrots
, well, from the surface anyway
I have covered over my potatos (3 types) about 3 or 4 times, hopefully that will generate loadsa spuds
. Although, to be honest, I wont be eating too many of them, so will be giving most of them away
I keep picking a few stalks of rhubarb every couple of weeks, chopping and freezing. Hopefully I will get a couple of gallons of wine from that
The mange tout has been repotted and staked into troughs. I hope they make it, as I read after I started them, that they dont like to be moved
. And I had to start up slug patrol today, as there was one in the trough :mad: I will be out there like a whippet at sun down now
My blackcurrant bush is flowering, but I only have one, so I am not sure if it will fruit
. I had intended to get another, but as always, I was overtaken by events
And probably the most exciting news for me, is my 3 yr old gooseberry bush, is finally fruiting :j:j:j
Thats all my news so far0 -

Most news sounds good!
How old are your radishes? I find them to be an excellent container crop. Have you been watering regularly?
And congratulations on the gooseberries. :drool:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

That flower's about 2mm across. Still can't quite believe I spotted it. I'd like more of this, I think.
Not sure if anyone identified this for you but it's a weed/wildflower called Speedwell. It's pretty isn't it?Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -

Thanks newleaf. It was tentatively IDd as wall speedwell, Veronica arvensis by the good people on the Wild About Britain forum.
And yes, it's pretty. I'd be happy to see more of it at the edges of my patio, instead of the other rubbish. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I planted them about 4 or 5 weeks ago I think.
The leaves are quite big, and the stem going into the soil is reddish.
They have been watered regularly
If I get a chance over the weekend, I will take a picture0 -

I wouldn't give up on them yet. There's still time.
I've sown mine on top of my potatoes, because Monty Don told me to. The spuds are coming through, I need to earth them up, and the radishes are nowhere near ready. Thanks Monty. :wall:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
We have rain :j.
Beer traps for slugs made out of the bottom cut off the 2ltr pop bottles that I am using for cloches are working well in the borders.
Has sown salsifry in a pot with no joy. Will try it in one of the veg plots this weekend.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
