Help MBE grow his dinner 2011

MrBadExample, I love the photos and it is all so neat and tidy. Are you managing to keep the foxes and cats away ?
How many dinners do you reckon you've had now ?
Not seen much in the way of foxes or cats for a while. Something seems to be working.
Dinners? Ooh...lots. There's not a day goes by when I don't eat something from the garden. Half the battle is actually managing to eat it before it spoils. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Not been the same since David Bryant's days mind.
:T to both of you!
I am working a lot of extra hours at the mo, & have been having to water/feed by torchlight. Is that sad? Or usual?:o
By torchlight, I think I saw my first tomato turning red:jIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I've just been practising with my new camera, so I know how it works before I fly out to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup in 17 days 7 hours 46 minutes & 52 seconds. :j
Firstly, I noticed that the experimental bucket of spuds was distorting:
so I thought I'd better empty it:
Not great, but not too bad considering it was from one Blue Danube seed potato in a Morrisons' flower bucket, that I pretty much neglected.Gives me some hope for the two bags. I've still got plenty in the ground too.

considering how long they have been in there I think thats a pretty good crop from one spud.
Mine are still alive and well, unless the blight alert warning that I've just had gets them.0 -
I finally planted out my leeks, that had been growing in one of the tubs.
Didn't have much space before, but they've gone in where the turnips came out. I'm a little worried because some of the winter turnips got soft rot, so I hope there's nothing nasty that might affect the leeks. I've planted out 45, next to the "spring" onions that I never picked, and am now eating as normal onions. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The cauliflower's about as good as I could expect, considering the state of the ground when I put them in (turf removed, no digging, no fertiliser, layer of straw mulch). I did add some chicken manure pellets when eventually thought about it.
This one's about the size of my fist, and I think the head's about to blow:
So it'll get eaten in the next day or so. I'd rather have a one-person portion than none at all. I've got more on the way:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
And for all those of you that think wasps do nobody any good, I caught this one duffing up a caterpillar, carving it into moveable portions and disappearing with it. Good lad!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

you're going to the rugby? Jealous.0

You can't see the grafted Conchita tomato too well in the picture I posted the other day. I have to say I'm more impressed than I thought I'd be:
That has 6 trusses. One is forked, so double the fruit. 5 are ripening. I've picked quite a few from it too. Was it worth £2.99 rather than the price of one seed? Monty Don reckons not, but I'm not so sure. If you only have space for a few plants, I'd say you get your money's worth. Otherwise, you could just grow two or three plants to get the same amount. I haven't got an ungrafted Conchita, so I can't compare taste. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Yes, in 17 days 6 hours 19 minutes and 22 seconds. Did I mention it? :j:D:beer::D:j
I get to see the last pool match, England v Scotland, then the two quarter finals that should have been in Christchurch but are now in Auckland. Then 3 days in Fiji to recover, before coming home.
I can't wait. Can you tell?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
