Ignore the label! Eat the red one!
Look at this chilli for example:
There's an orange one in the middle that's half the size of the others, but it's ready.
I learned quite early on that you don't actually get what it says, or what it depicts, on the packet. You get what you get, and you be grateful!
I liken it to burgers. When was the last time you went into a burger-selling establishment and got anything that even slightly resembled the picture? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I shamefully neglected my purple sprouting broccoli, which got eaten:
But today I saw that two of them had sprouted new leaves. So I've planted them where a couple of cauliflowers had come out:
I know, it's brassica after brassica, and there's probably not much hope for them, but I just can't resist a plant that's trying. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

You big softy
I know. I had a spider plant that was trying to take over the house and I got sick of it and chucked it. Wracked with guilt, I was.
Anyway, I have been getting some "assistance" in my garden. From a squirrel, I think. I know one's been trashing my sunflowers. Apparently he sits on my bench to much the immature heads:
But now he's taken to planting things! Obviously concerned with the sustainability of his food source, Farmer Squirrel is planting peanuts in with my tomatoes:
One of which took root. So, just to be helpful, I potted it up for him:
So, now I need to know if it is possible for Farmer Squirrel to grow peanuts in this country, if I help him out a bit? :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I've grown peanuts years ago when my son was little. Wrong time of the year unless you can keep it warm and brightly lit.

Squirrels do that in my garden too but I've never had one sprout from it, probably because they spend all winter digging up my garden looking for them!0 -

Cheers annie. Do you think I'll be able to overwinter it indoors? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I'll let you know next year when you've tried it
Haven't got a clue.0 -
ok the few red toms I did have were all struck by blossom end rot, & weren't edible. However the plants did survive the high winds, & the rest of the crop does not have BER & I am watering more frequently now, with feed in the hope that none of the others develop it. I have a number of red toms. I cannot wait to eat one.
I am also quite suprised, & best whisper this in case I'm jumping the gun, but I do believe I have a couple of peppers sprouting on the pepper plants!:jIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Well it's been an interesting first year of GYO, and I might not have achieved a tomatoe glut to make pasta sauce with but we do have quite a lot of peppers and an awful lot of chillis. I can highly recommend the early jalapenos and pretty in purple from the real seed co...here are just a few I'm about to freeze.0

Very nice Fay!
To be honest, I thought the PinP were Pretty, yes, Purple, yes, but a bit lacking in the furnace department. Those in post #1523 make up for it though. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
