I'm a bit confused now.Like several of you on here,i decided that the online energy saver 12 dual fuel was the best one to change to.,from the fixed Feb 2011 package. The gas works out cheaper and the electric a bit more expensive but i thought after over 2 years there would be a lot more to pay,so am pleased with that.

I requested a call back and it was spot on.No trouble getting it and when she asked where i had heard about it,and i said "here" she didn't sound surprised! Took the readings over the phone and said it would be dealt with today. As i have been in credit every time i get a bill i asked for the amount per month to be reduced, but instead she said it worked out dearer  I questioned that logic but she reckoned it was because having calculated what i owed after the last couple of cold months, the gas bill was much higher and ate up most of the credit.Yes i do use a fair bit more electric than gas but according to most of you, your monthly payements appear to have been reduced!

I am thinking of waiting until it is all calculated and appears online ,then getting them to call again and explain it! Can anyone meanwhile throw any light as to why this may have been?

I don't really follow. Maybe something to do with breaking even in March? (the review date)

What I suggest is you ask SP what they believe your annual consumption in kWh for each supply is expected to be (you may even find this on your latest statements).
Using that, calculate the total annual cost on OES12 - use a comparison site if it's easier.
Divide the annual cost by 12 and (especilayy at this time of year) you shouldn't be far wrong.

My direct debit was increased from £41 to £48 a month, though I only found this out when I clicked on 'recent activity' - I'd been told it wouldn't change to April when I spoke to the operator. I'm a bit annoyed no-one told me.

Thanks for your suggestions, premier and beecher2.I now have the bill itemised and have double checked all the figures.I know we had a very cold spell but it was a shock nevertheless to see just how much more gas we had used from this time last year.I do like that facility, where you can compare between the two.

It came to me in a sort of "flash of common sense " moment.Since we had our combi boiler fitted about 4 years ago and a wireless thermostat put in the front room,we struggled at the very coldest time of year to get the whole house warm because as soon as the lounge got warm, the heating would go off and though we were lovely and warm in the lounge, elsewhere it wasn't much cop! We don't like it too hot ,but even so! Then someone told me,who had the same system, that theirs was in the hall, and that you could put it where you wanted.Doh!! (Yes i know, you can stop laughing now.)

So of course, since then, which must be at least a couple of months ago,we have had a lovely constant temperature throughout. It meant we could certainly turn the thermostat down, but of course, the heating came on more because the hall is always cooler.
At least come the warmer weather the usage should go down quite a bit again so i'm not too worried. And it is now a cheaper rate than before! It all makes sense now!

Well I thought everything was sorted regarding my SP fixed feb 2011. I decided to try ovo and went on the comparison sites and they worked out the more favourably one. I was given an indication that my dd would be about £85 per month. However the agreement came through via my email today and OVO stating as we are justing going into the winter period they want to set the rate at £107 per month.

I rang them and advised I wanted to cancel. The advisor said how much would I consider paying each month. I suggested £90 and this was agreed.

They also advised I would have to stay in credit as debit balance are not allowed.

However what is to stop them from increasing the amount in a few months.

Nothing stopping them. As they informed you, they will not accept you going into debit.

Ovo actually have a rather strange DD charging process that does mean you pay more in winter than in summer - it's explained on their website. It's not designed to be a constant amount like other suppliers aim for.

I have now cancelled the transfer.

As Premier says, it's explained on the website. The DD would have been reviewed in April.

I'm in the same situation except the thermostat in my south facing lounge (with huge bay window) is very old. I took advice from a DIY site and bought a Honeywell wireless thermostat in March 09, but the wiring of the existing thermostat is not "adequate" for the Honeywell and I've since been told it should be connected to the boiler. I have to have electric fires to warm the back of the flat :(

    Sorry to digress :o

    Now here's interesting....

Rang SP this evening to move to OES12 to be told that, as of yesterday, it was no longer available. Girl I spoke to was not the brightest button, so unsure if she simply was uninterested in trying very hard to help me. I told her I had rang yesterday but had not got an automated call back, so after a chat wither her floor walker, access to a different server and 8 minutes on silent hold ..... I was allowed on keep on paying the SP over £110 a month.

It appears you got a right dim-wit

It's still showing as available on their website
