Make sure you check that your account has been changed over by checking your online details - I phoned back today and found out that I was still on the Fixed Rate deal and my change was pending.

I have just switched to onlilne energy saver 12 and when I asked why I could not do it online, I was told it is new. I am sure it is not true.

I forgot to ask whether there is a cancellation fee? Is there?

    It's never simple is it.

I'd hoped to just change electricity only as this fixed deal coming to an end. Based on experiences on here had also hoped to change to a plan with Scottish Power ( to keep things simple).

But SP online energy saver 12 does not even come up in switch comparisons when quoting for elec only. Cheapest Npower sign online 21 with nearest SP tariff being £100 dearer.

not sure whether the SP OES 12 does not come up because the switch sites view it as dual fuel only tariff.

so back to the calculator for me and also to consider looking at gas as well ( was happy with Ebico)

and added to that companies use different KWH per qtr/annum for first tier rates

Well, I took the plunge, and have gone with Ovo Fixed electricity and npower SOL 21 for gas, as discussed above.

Hoping for 17.50 cashback from Moneysupermarket and £15 from Energyhelpline. Didn't fancy Topcashback's £20.20 for npower in the end, having read the comments about delays on TCB's own site, because I only intend to stick with npower for 6 months or so anyway.

Can't believe I've signed up for npower, as I know they are complete plonkers, but there ya go. Fingers and everything else crossed.

I have discovered that Energyhelpline's calculations are a bit wayward. My own spreadsheets agree almost exactly with Energylinx, so I will put more trust in them from now on.

    Good luck to all.

Thanks for the mention of energylinx website. I liked their layout.

I'm not sure I can be bothered to change both suppliers so may just bring my gas (ebico) over to SP and change to SP OES12 dual. Which of course excludes me from any cashback.

Interesting the way these dual tariffs work - on the SP OES12 breakdown the elec price is £70 ish more than cheapest elec only and gas is £80 ish less than cheapest gas only ( hope that makes sense! )

Yup, that's what I was finding, hence choosing two different suppliers, although you tend to lose some of the benefit through loss of dual fuel discount or unavailability of a particular tariff on a single-fuel basis.

What region are you in, elektra?

I am also coming to the end of the SP fixed price which I currently pay a direct debit of £40 per month. My usage over the last year has been 7001kwh for gas and 2255kwh for electricity.
I have looked at the possibility of going for the Platinum Fixed Energy January 2014 and having just spoken to the call centre they have quoted me £47pm.

I have looked at all the comparison sites and they state my bill would rise to £644 per year, but SP have quoted me £47pm equating to £564 per year!

I would ideally like to fix as with the voltatile gas prices I would rather have certainty. Also with the Platinum Fixed Energy January 2014 you get free boiler home care cover which works out at around £144 per year.

Would anyone recommend getting this package? Also the telesales person stated that they are likely to withdraw this offer very soon as this package came out in August 2010 before the SP price rises in Nov 10.

    Thanks
