  • I just rang up & changed to OES12 from the OFPE2011 which ends this month, no problems at all so it is definitely still available.

Rang at 1:20 today to change from On Line Fixed Price Feb 2011 to Online Energy Saver 12.
I'm on electricity only, and was turned down flat - she said Online Energy Saver 12 was only dual fuel, and anyway it was withdrawn. "so you have nothing to offer me?"..."NO".... "So I'll have to change to another supplier?".... "Yes, sorry to lose you".

After reading Premier's post rang again, spoke to different rep and asked to change to Online Energy Saver 12 - this time the story was "only for new customers". I persisted, saying this was ridiculous, and quoting posts from here. She continued to say there was no way I could move to this tarrif, until she eventually said,
"As far as I know it only for new customers"... so I said,
"As it's only 'as far as you know', will you please ask someone higher up then?"... and eventually she did, and guess what? As a one-off special favour to me, I got it.

I'm not blaming the CS reps, I guess they've been told to turn us down if they can, but why do companies spend lots of money trying to attract new customers, yet care so little for existing loyal ones?
    Maybe it's just me

Oh dear, how many dim-wits have they got at Scottish Power answering the phones?

There are 2 different products available; one for electric only and one for dual fuel.

From the terms in the back of the Online Energy Saver 12 pdf file
    Terms and Conditions

    1. Supplies of (i) electricity (the 'Electricity Offer Product') or (ii) both mains gas and electricity from ScottishPower (the 'Gas and Electricity Offer Product') under the Online Energy Saver 12 Offer (together the “Offer Products”) must be applied for from 29th November 2010 until the date when the Offer Products are withdrawn by us. All applicants must be aged 18 years or over and must contract to pay, and continue to pay, for the energy supply under the Offer Product by monthly Direct Debit and manage their account online.

Was thinking of trying to change to Sign on Line 12 as well but have been putting it off. From what I can see the Sign on Line 12 main conditions are the same as the newer Discounted Energy product I.e. guaranteed to be 2% below the standard tariff. Since the new product is much more expensive is must mean that the Sign on Line 12 currently has a much higher discount.

    So a couple of questions.

How likely are they to bring the old tariff’s discount in line with the newer package?
If they do increase the price of the Sign on Line 12 are you still committed to the 12 month contract or can you decline the increase and exit without incurring the early termination penalties.

As I tried to point out earlier, the difference in the products is that the discounted product is 2% less than standard DD monthly payments rates, whilst the OES12 is a minimum of 2% less. (it's currently much less than that)
Based on previous similar products (this is v12 after all), the chance of bringing the OES12 up to 2% below is minimal (but possible).

(I think there's also a difference in period- OES12 is until end Feb 2012, I believe the discounted tariff is a longer period)

If you exit OES12 before end of Feb 2012 for any reason other than moving home, the terms allow for the an early exit charge to be applied.

Apparently withdrawn yesterday according to online department, I did tell them that it was still advertised and even said that people were still signing up to it but they weren't having any of it, they said it was definately withrdrawn

"edit" if I click on get a quote or sign up now just getting blank page so looks like I missed the boat, my own fault should have done it at the beginning of the week

I missed the same boat, for same reasons.

seems others have been able to swap if persistent. I only have elec with them and was thinking of bringing gas over to duel fual OES12.

don't want to just have elec on OES12 as that would be more expensive.

might try a phone call later.

Listen to Premier  - don't be rude, just be very persistent. It took me 5 mins to persuade the CS girl to consult someone higher up.

I finally made the call today, didn't even have to be persistent or rude.
They did say tariff closed last week but as I said I was bringing over gas to them they said they could make an exception and put me on OES12.

That's one thing sorted for another year(probably), now for the house insurance quotes......

Now the trouble has started

Have just tried to call them. They were very quick to answer my call when I tried to sign up, but now they've got me snared, this is what I get.

"Your call is important to us." blah blah blah

"You are currently held in a queue
The current waiting time is estimated as between 42 mins and 1 hr and 2 minutes"

"Use our call back service and you will not lose your place in the queue. The good news also is that you will not have to pay for your call" (it was a freephone number anyway!)

"The telephone number you have entered is not valid."

Well it's the only one I've got! Your answer is important to me but you are now on hold. I'll get back to you when I feel like it

Edit: Just checked back after 15 minutes and they've hung up
Edit 2: Actually may have been my fault as I didn't press '0' to confirm I wanted them to answer (i.e. remain on hold) :o
They are now on hold again. Their answer is important to me and I'll be with them....eventually :D
Edit 3: Nope, this time they cut me off within 13 minutes. So much for their estimated timing to answer. Perhaps that's actually just the time they will call you back (i.e. they don't hold your place in the queue)
Edit 4: Just tried calling again.
"This service is currently closed due to staff training. We will reopen at 11:40 today"

Edit 5: Just tried calling them again. (just before 2pm)
They estimated my call would be answered in 6-10 minutes. They actually answered it in just under 5 minutes :)
